So, I was playing a game about 2 and a half years ago called The Division, it’s a video game which requires communication and strategy so naturally I met some people along the way, and one of them was Dennie, he lives in Wagenborgen, Netherlands.
Now I have known Dennie for 2 and half a years and I am yet to meet him, I want to document my relationship with him over the next month and finally go and meet him, after all of these years, in Wagenborgen, Groningen.
Now, I know what you’re thinking, “George, why do you think your friendship could be a great film?”
Well, one day he told me that he also runs a very forward thinking paraplegic charity named The Walk On Foundation, which helps make the lives of paraplegic people more fulfilling and their aim is to cure paraplegia all together using exo-technology (a metal skeleton which fixes onto your major joints and spine controlled by your nerves in the base of your skull.)
I asked him, “why would you run a paraplegic charity?”
And this is why I think it would be a great film to make. 6 months into our online, virtual relationship, where we were playing characters running around together and fighting wars, Dennie told me that he was in a moped accident a year before I had met him, is now paralysed from the waist down, and had been the whole time we had been friends.

I am raising money to help me get to Dennie and learn more about him. I want to make a documentary about our growing friendship and the amazing work that he does.
As you can imagine, this is difficult on a student budget (which effectively means 0 budget), and I need help from you, my family and friends to make this a beautiful reflection for Dennie.
Any money not spent on flights or accommodation will go directly to The Walk On Foundation.

Op zaterdagavond 18 oktober 2014 reed ik op mijn brommer naar huis. Het bijbaantje in de bloemen zat erop. Ik was van plan om op stap te gaan met de jongens. Had zin in de zaterdagavond, zin in het leven.
Ik was bijna thuis toen ik in straatje van rechts de koplampen van een auto zag. Ik kon er nog gemakkelijk voorlangs, maar keek toch over mijn schouder. Daardoor veranderde ik van richting, knalde tegen een stoep, vloog over mijn stuur en zo met mijn lichaam tegen een kastje van een provider.
Zelf kan ik mij nog weinig herinneren van de klap. Alles ging zo snel dat mijn hersenen de situatie niet konden plaatsen. Ik kan mij nog een paar dingen herinneren. Het rijden op de brommer, een harde klap op mijn hoofd, de mensen die geschokt om mij heen staan. Ik kan nog vaag horen: hou zijn hoofd vast hij heeft zijn nek gebroken en iemand bel 112! Twee ambulances en een traumahelikopter verschenen snel ter plekke. Ik word voor mijn gevoel in een formule 1-snelheid met de ambulance naar het ziekenhuis gebracht. En toen werd alles zwart......
'Gelukkig, hij is wakker', is het eerste wat ik hoorde. Ik wis niet meer welke dag het was, waar ik was en hoe ik daar kwam. Maar ik dacht al snel aan Avebe, waar ik als MBO-student in mijn examenjaar stage liep. Ik zag vaag mijn moeder en zei gelijk: 'Je moet Mark bellen, want ik kom maandag niet op het werk'. Al snel werd mij verteld dat ik een dwarslaesie had. En dat leven op dat moment er heel anders uit ging zien voor mij.
