STRIDES FOR STUTTERING!

Tax deductible
THE SCOOP:
Nathan Maxfield, co-chair of the National Stuttering Association's Research Committee, is running the 2018 New York City Marathon. He's training in hot and humid Tampa this summer, and seeking your sponsorship to stay motivated. 100% of donations will go to the National Stuttering Association's research fund.

THE FULL STORY:
Stuttering affects 2.5% of children and 1% of adults. Researchers around the globe are working hard to understand stuttering, how stuttering impacts people, and how to reduce any negative impacts.

The National Stuttering Association (NSA) offers competitive funding to support high-quality research. As co-chair of the NSA’s Research Committee, I’d like to see this funding grow. You can help!

On November 4, I am running the 2018 New York City Marathon. I am dedicating the run (and all of the training runs) to people who live daily with stuttering. And I’m seeking sponsorships!

100% OF YOUR DONATIONS will go into the NSA’s research fund. Your support will keep me motivated on training runs and during the marathon. More importantly, your generosity will seed new research aimed at helping people who stutter.

Please donate if you can, and THANK YOU for supporting Strides for Stuttering!

THE BACKGROUND:
Nathan Maxfield is a person who stutters, proud husband and dad, and Associate Professor in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of South Florida, one of three universities recognized as Preeminent by the State of Florida. This will be Nathan's second time running the NYC Marathon, and his fourth marathon overall. Nathan operates the Stuttering Intervention and Research Lab. He supervises services for children and adults who stutter in the USF Speech Clinic, and directs the summer intensive Program for Advanced Treatment of Stuttering (PATS). Nathan is co-chair of the NSA’s Research Committee and has co-hosted NSA-Tampa chapter meetings since 2008, along with organizing the annual USF/NSA “Speech Party” for children who stutter and their families. Nathan serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Speech-Language-Hearing Research, and has been fortunate to receive National Institutes of Health funding to support his research on stuttering.
