Street Camp Out Leon, Nicaragua

Donation protected
The Quetzaltrekkers Street Camp Out will be a 24 hour event where volunteers from the organization camp out in the streets of León experiencing what it is like to live like the street kids do on a daily basis. This event will not only build awareness of the issue, but will be a step in the right direction generating funds for a project that continually works towards bringing opportunities for a better future to the kids. All generated funds will be donated to Las Chavaladas, one of Quetzaltrekkers' supported local social projects.
Hello everyone! My name is Miguel Canto, a volunteer with Quetzaltrekkers in León, Nicaragua. I have spent my last 6 months volunteering with the organization as a marketing intern, tour guide, and surf instructor. At the end of the month, May 31 to June 1, other volunteers and I will be camping out on the streets of León to build awareness for an ongoing issue. We are all volunteers from around the world that came together in Nicaragua because of our similar interests in bettering the lives of the kids. We give tours daily to travelers from around the world who share the same interest with their proceeds being donated straight to our supported local projects. We also find other ways to help the kids by organizing events such as this one.
Quetzaltrekkers is a non-governmental tour operator that aims to offer the best hiking experiences around the city of León. As an NGO, the organization aims to be a leader in maximizing its donations to break the cycle of childhood poverty in Nicaragua. The motto is simple - Hike volcanoes, Help kids. The sleep out serves to build awareness around a growing issue in León as well as other cities within the country. Childhood poverty is quite visible as kids continue to live in the streets with minimal support and assistance. Kids in the streets come from broken homes or do not have a home to return to leading to their use of drugs and getting involved with gangs. Quetzaltrekkers aims to end this cycle by supporting and donating to various social projects working hard to bring positive opportunities to kids throughout Nicaragua.
As a donation recipient, Las Chavaladas contributes to the rehabilitation of children in especially difficult circumstances (such as homelessness or the use of drugs) and prepares the child for re-integration into healthy familial, educational and social relationships through a comprehensive intervention program which includes prevention and awareness.
We hope you share the same interest that we do by helping out any way you can by spreading the word or donation. Any contribution helps. Thank you.

Donations will be accepted from now until 4 pm June 1st.
