Help us save our home!

My name is James Jones. My family and I are currently the target of an illegal foreclosure on our 11 acre home near Stockdale, perpetrated by the original owners, who owner-financed a small portion of the sale price- we paid cash for the majority of the value. We have exhausted all other means of assistance, as I am disabled and my wife suffers from Lupus and Diabetes and is our only current means of support. We are desperately hoping that the power of the people can do what we cannot afford to do.

I am a medically retired commercial pilot. I also served as a fireman, police officer, and EMT. I was injured flying medivacs in Alaska, where I also met my wife, who is from there. We have three children, now grown, 2 girls and an autistic son.

I broke my back severely in Alaska, on the job, and spent 5 years in a wheelchair or  with a walker. We finally moved back to San Antonio, where I was born and where most of my family is. We found a doctor here who managed to repair my back, but by this time the 5 years of steroids had done their damage- an earlier injury was excaberated by the damage to my immune system, and now I am frequently hospitalized, unable to work at all, and somehow do not qualify for disability because of delays in applying.

We still had small children when we moved back to Texas, and my wife and I were  both raised in the country, and wanted our kids raised that way as well, so we took my lump sum retirement and fixed up a small home I inherited from my godfather, then flipped it. We did very well on the sale, and managed to buy 11 acres out between Seguin and Stockdale, in Wilson county. We fenced it, put in a 4 bedroom home, septic and well, and raised our children here. They all graduated from Stockdale High school and the girls are both in college. Our autistic son has as independent a lifestyle as we can provide for him, his own apartment in Seguin and a social life. My wife still has to shop for him and remind him to do basic things, but he enjoys life...which is all that matters.

I am hospitalized every 3-5 weeks, for typically 8-12 days. I get horrible infections, cellulitis, that only strong IV antibiotics can cure. I believe I have spent 162 days hospitalized in 2017, just as an example. At some point, the antibiotics will stop working, and this condition will kill me. I am on borrowed time. This is horribly hard on my wife, our sole provider, as you can imagine. She works very long hours as a dispatcher in San Antonio. I am unable to drive or to work at all, anymore.

When we purchased our land, we agreed on a sale price of $120,000. I paid the owners $95,000 cash and we financed $25,000, so we could keep plenty of cash on hand- as we still had to buy fencing and septic/water and a house.

We financed the $25,000 at 10 years, to begin the 1st of January, 2008 and to be completed the 31st of December 2017. We made all of our payments on time and in full- we had planned to pay it off early, but my health went rapidly downhill and I was unable to work, so we just stuck to the agreed upon schedule.

In July, or 2017, with only 6 payments remaining for a total of a little less than $1500, we had a crisis- I spent a great deal of time in the hospital and my wife had complications from her illnesses at the same time. My wife spoke with one of the owners on the phone (I was present) and told her we would be late on the next few payments but would send a large amount by November 1 and the note would still be paid off on time, by December 31, 2017. She was agreeable. My wife followed up with a letter, outlining everything in writing.

In late October, we sent a $600 payment. It was returned, with a notice that our property had already been foreclosed on and sold at auction! (It was sold by the owners TO the owners, for $1,000)

We received no notice of anything. They posted notices in Floresville, they claim- we never go to Floresville, it's 30 miles in the wrong direction. They know this. They used to live here, and I believe she may have been a contract postal carrier. We never received a single notification of any type. I have a family that would have easily loaned me $1500 to pay off the note if I had known our agreement was null and void, why in the world would I have ignored such a situation and lose the home we have everything we own invested in??? We have absolutely nothing else- and we run a small German Shepherd Rescue, so having this land is vital to us.

We are about 20 days away from losing everything. I can't work and we have nowhere to go. My wife has Lupus and Diabetes and is working 60 hour weeks. We have 17 German Shepherds that are family. Everything we own is spread out here in 11 acres, this is our HOME.

This is wrong. We need help to prove it. He who has the thickest wallet should NOT always win.
They offered to sell us back our home (which we have never left) for $21,000.

Please help us.

EDIT: My beautiful wife Tami had a wonderful idea. We will use the money we get from you wonderful people for legal expenses only- anything leftover will be donated to our friends and neighbors in Sutherland Springs, who were the victims of that piece of garbage who attacked the church.
