Hi, everyone!
My name is Tamia (Mia) Hurst and I attend the Albany State University a Historical Black College in Albany, GA. As the second youngest child of five, and it has been a privilege for me to study at this institution. Though I am not the first to attend college in my family the numbers are so few. Through my studies I hope to one day be able to give back not only to my family, who has sacrificed so much for me, but also to the communities that have helped me make it this far.
I was recently accepted into a study abroad program that will allow me to pursue my goals of learning about grassroots organizations and movements specifically working to liberate poor and working class people of color around the globe. Through this program, I will be able to study in Trinidad and Tobago during the summer semester 2018. However, this trip will not be possible without a lot of sacrifice. I am receiving some financial-aid through my school, but the financial assistance does not cover all of the expenses for this trip. I am saving up all of my winter and spring break earnings and I do have a on campus job but it is still not enough.
This is why I am turning to you -- my family members, friends, and communities who have supported my journey and growth for so many years. With your continued support and contribution, whatever it may be, I will be able to pay for my expensive, immunizations, my books and supplies, storage, and more.
I do not know if this opportunity will ever become available to me again, so please help make this dream possible! Anything helps!
