On September 23rd 2015 our dad was struck by a truck, at highway speeds, while biking to work.  The driver of the truck didn't stop and left my dad for dead on the side of the road.  Among numerous injuries are a dislocated shoulder, torn rotator cuff, multiple facial fractures, spleen and kidney damage, fractured vertebrae, pelvic fracture and separation.  This isn't a complete list and it seems like the doctors continue to find things as time goes on.  Needless to say he has a long road to recovery and will be unable to work for a long time.

As hard as it is to deal with this tragedy my mom has been very strong and at his hospital bedside 24/7.  She has not been working due to caring for him so they're out two incomes at the same time.   My brothers and I are  trying to take care of mom while she's at the hospital with dad.  Neighbors are helping to keep the yard in order and bringing food.  Cousins are helping clean the house.   Tragically my dad doesn't have long term disability insurance and the financial effects of monthly living expenses will start to take a toll on them soon. These bills are why I'm asking for your help and so that my mom can be with him on his long road to recovery.

We love our parents very much and to see this happen to them is the most tragic thing we've ever dealt with.  It has altered our family forever but we've had a lot of support from family and friends to make it emotionally easier.  However, we'll be dealing with this for years to come.

My dad is an avid bicyclist who did the MS-150 for 18 years, Ride the Rockies, Bike Across KS, RAGBRAI and numerous others.  Last summer he did a solo ride from Shawnee KS to San Francisco CA in four weeks.  He has put less than 10k miles on his car in the past 20 years and rode his bike every day, no matter how hot or cold, unless it was raining or snowing.  Bicycling is his passion and I only hope that someday he'll be able to ride again.

Thanks for all of the love and support that has come our way so far.  My dad would never ask for help but in the long run I know dad, mom and my entire family will be immensely grateful for any help you can provide.

Thanks from his three sons;
Brent/Matt/Scott
