Update from the family:
Our hearts are bursting with pride but breaking with pain for our courageous, selfless and inspirational husband, father, brother and mate, who passed away peacefully around 7.00pm, Tuesday the 19th of June. We are so thankful for the ongoing support, kindness of strangers, donations and the outpouring of love for Steve. It will help greatly at this difficult time, in the same way it has helped during the last 6 weeks, since his tragic accident. We will be forever grateful. Steve will never be forgotten and his spirit will live on amongst all his family and friends.
Thank you all and much love, forever!

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Stephens Celebration of Life Service which will be held at 4:00pm on Wednesday 27th June 2018, at the Newhaven Chapel; 218 Harbour Road Mackay.
Flowers optional, or donations in lieu to the Townsville Hospital Foundation (Palliative Care Unit)

Stephen's Story:
This is Stephen Louttit.
Steve is a much loved father to two daughters, son and husband to his wife of 35 years.
On May 12th, Steve fell from a ladder in the front yard of his Mackay home, his head taking the impact of the concrete driveway. Steve, with his wife Carolyn by his side, was placed immediately into an induced coma and airlifted to Townsville hospital. He remained in the induced coma for the following two weeks, undergoing surgery to remove part of his skull to allow for swelling. During this time, Steve developed blood clots in his leg; and his major organs began to fail. Dialysis was commenced immediately, however due to the bleeding on his brain, Steve was not yet stable enough for the blood thinners needed to treat the clots. On the 21st May, scans revealed the blood clots had travelled to his lungs, and the minimum dose of blood thinners was administered. Against the odds, Steve survived the complications, and the medication keeping him in an induced coma was ceased. With the drugs out of his system Steve slowly awoke, however his brain was so severely damaged that he showed no signs of awareness to his surroundings, nor was able to move or speak. On the 12th June 2018, the family was elated as Steve began to show small signs of awareness; amazingly puckering his lips to kiss Carolyn.
Unfortunately, that bliss was short lived as immediately following this progress, Steve showed signs of declining health. During a meeting with neurologists, it was explained to family that if he were to survive, Steve would live the remainder of his life in a vegetative state. In order to respect his final wishes, the machine assisting Steves breathing was removed, and he was transferred to the Palliative Care Unit where he will remain surrounded by loved ones and kept comfortable until he passes.

The Louttit family are the epitome of a selfless, loving family; they’ve endured and overcome many hardships together. During 2014, the troubles began when the family’s youngest girl, Deanna, almost lost her life to meningitis at the age of 14. Following this, during 2016, Steves wife Carolyn was diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer - a 2 year struggle which resulted in a mysetomy. Fortunately, resilient Carolyn was confirmed cancer free just only months ago. The family’s struggles continued when just this year, eldest daughter Sherilyn discovered a blue, unconscious Deanna on her bedroom floor. Deanna began having unpredictable seizures and once again almost lost her life. Throughout these struggles, the family has remained resilient, compassionate, loving and kind - all traits belonging to and passed down from Steve. Steve devoted his life to others. Sherilyns 16th Birthday, Steve offered his home to an Irish Backpacker with no alternative accommodation. 10 years later, he’s never left and Steve gained another son. Just months ago, Steve invited two german toursts to stay with the family while he repaired their broken down campervan. Steve gave everything he had to others, and was the sole provider for his family.

With heavy hearts, those of us who love Steve and his family, we come to you - the public - and ask for your generosity. Please show kindness to a family who are truely in need and truely deserving. Please help us raise money for Steves funeral, and for the family to get the financial head start they need in order to survive without their beloved father and husband. Thank you kindly.
