Flutes for the Future: Stephanie

Donation protected
Stephanie Izaguirre is a talented young flute student from Laredo, Texas, who is currently a member of my studio at Texas A&M University - Kingsville.

Stephanie has overcome every possible obstacle: she comes from a background of limited means, she was in a terrible car accident in her sophomore year (broke her collarbone and suffered a head injury) and she DOES NOT OWN A FLUTE.  She's been playing on my back-up Yamaha flute for the past three years.

This year, she is preparing for graduate auditions; and she needs her own flute.  I helped her open a savings account a couple if years ago, and every term since then, she has been squirreling away money from her student loans.  She has raised $2000 so far, but that really only buys her a student model flute.  She deserves a more advanced level instrument that will help her to continue to develop into a young professional.  At NFA and here in Texas she has found several instruments that suit her including a Burkart Resona 300 ( about $4,500), a Miyazawa PB-202RH (about $4,500) and a Murumatsu EX (about $4,000) as well as a couple of others in approximately the same price range.

Stephanie is a young musician of remarkable talent and perseverance.  And her hard work has paid off.  She has been invited to perform three times at the National Flute Association Conference, twice as a member of the NFA Collegiate Flute Choir, visiting California, Minnesota and Florida.  Two years ago she won our school's concerto competition on piccolo.  This summer, she won a fellowship with the Crested Butte Summer Music Festival in Colorado, where she played as a member of their orchestra for two weeks.  This coming October, her flute quartet, "Quartetto Dolce," is traveling to Vancouver, Canada to perform and the College Music Society National Conference.  Here at TAMUK, she is the principal flute of our Wind Symphony and our orchestra.  She is a member of our school's woodwind quintet, one of our flute quartets and also additionally performs in a number of ad hoc ensembles for recitals and small chamber performances.

This young flutist can MAKE it.  She represents the talent, creativity, ambition and work ethic that you need to be a successful flute player in the 21st century.

But she needs your help.  She has raised half of what she needs to purchase an instrument of quality.  Please help her, and support me, by making even a small contribution to this fund; your contribution will truly and absolutely, make a difference in her life.
