With your support, the first STEM Club in Bolivia  can reach kids in vulnerable populations, helping them to broaden their perspective, increase their skills and improve their self-esteem.

Approximately 70% of Bolivians have low skilled, low-paying, informal employment. The increasing level of unemployment in overly saturated job industries is in large part due to the limited access and opportunities available to students to develop and apply skills in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). We want to change this situation starting from a young age, sparking the curiosity and multidisciplinary thinking of kids.

In EnerGea , we have developed a STEM training program, the first STEM Club in the country, however, kids and teens in vulnerable situations can't access the program because of lack of economic resources, broadening the breach between them and other kids.  Our program has reached 80+ children in the past year, and it aims to reach 300 more by 2020.

Since empowering them is part of our social business values and mission, we are committed to giving half scholarships of the usual cost to all kids in this campaign. However, we need funds to cover for the materials, transport and other related expenses.

Without exposure and access to learn and develop STEM skills, those kids are deprived of the opportunity to obtain secure employment and increase lifelong earning potential.

EnerGea's STEM Club consists on sessions where participants can experience science through fun activities that will develop their critical thinking, with multimedia support and written teaching materials aimed to build STEM skills and knowledge and soft skills such as teamwork, creativity and critical thinking for problem solving. We also give vocational feedback to parents/caretakers.

Each session lasts three hours, plus a snack, warm-up time and group dynamics. The program proposed in this campaign consists of three months of weekly sessions, with different STEM themes, such as light and colors, hot and cold, force and acceleration, and building structures. Below you can see pictures of previous activities of the Club:

Our goal is to give our program to 20 kids for 3 months, sessions given with care, attention, and purpose!

We will also give the foster caretakers some free resources so that they can teach that to the kids that are most interested and keep them engaged, and even sign them up for our future campaigns so that we can teach them more advanced concepts!

Plus, we will buy and install a Raspberry Pi computer with educational tools and encyclopedia images (see www.oer2go.org) to give them access to a lot of information without the need for an Internet connection. It will be installed in the common area so that they can use it for homework and research.

And of course, we will keep all of you who get involved updated with the activities we perform.

Who are we?

We are STEM trainers committed to increasing opportunities for Bolivian youth, to help democratize knowledge and motivate young people to have critical thinking, to develop solutions and to work in teams.
