Welcome to the GoFundMe page for SteamShovelers.cool! We're a new site dedicated to reviewing games released on Steam, focusing on independent developers and publishers. Our team of writers has over 20 years of combined experience covering games across multiple platforms and outlets like IGN, Game Informer, Gamasutra, CGMagazine and Destructoid!
You may be wondering why we are prioritizing small studios over AAA companies. We feel that:
1. Too many gems slip by without getting noticed or any press at all,
and
2. Too many awful games are flooding the Steam marketplace from asset flips, to broken games, to cynical meme simulators thus making finding decent non-AAA games on Steam like finding a needle in a haystack.
How We Categorize Games
Early Access: Any game in Steam's Early Access category will be given impressions and a rating that lets you know if you should buy it now, wait for improvement, or avoid it altogether.
Full Reviews: Games that are marketed as full products or out of Early Access/Greenlight will be given the full review treatment including a score. Our review scale is a 100 point system where 50 is an absolutely unremarkable, average game. Full reviews will have two sub categories: Gems and Steam Pile. Gems are games which score 80 or higher, while Steam Pile will be made up of games which score below 50
Funds raised here will be used to pay staff writers a competitive rate, cover basic operational costs such as our domain name/site hosting, and marketing campaigns to grow our brand so we can continue to give independent game developers and publishers the press coverage they deserve!
