Help for Critically Injured Animals

Donation protected

A puppy is hit by a car and left for dead on the side of the road.  A kitten with an eye mutilated beyond repair is found abandoned.  A fluffy black and white dog slumps against the side of his cage, in pain and completely helpless.

Not only is this reality, it was the reality THIS WEEK alone at one of the shelters in the communities with whom we work.  It is unconscionable to think that these animals couldn't see a vet right away - would in fact suffer in their shelter kennels simply because there were no funds left to help them.

When these urgent cases come in, a call is made to Starfish ... "Can we take this dog to the vet? It needs care immediately."  Starfish says yes, of course, take the dog. No questions asked.  Why do they ask us? Because if we do not pay for it, it doesn't happen. If we say no, that dog will sit in a kennel.  Not because no one cares about the dog, but because vets are not free. That is the reality.  These animals need medical care right away - not in two weeks when they might make it to rescue. And the path to that care is Starfish.

Recently, there has been a surge of animals needing urgent medical care.  Take Malibu - Malibu is a Beagle puppy who was found on the side of the road, hit by a car - crying in pain.  OF COURSE he has to go to the vet.  He was rushed there as he was crashing. Today, he is eating.  He may have head trauma but he is under veterinary care and will make it into rescue. He will know love and safety.

Starfish has taken in puppies needing FHO surgery, kittens in such bad shape that they take weeks to rehabilitate.  We just brought up Brady, the Irish Wolfhound with severe mange and a horribly injured paw. All of these animals are now getting care because we said yes, of course - OF COURSE we have to help them.

But the brutal reality is that our funds are quickly depleting. It will break us in every single way and scar our souls, but soon we will have to say we cannot pay for that care. We cannot help.

So we are coming to you, to ask for help, on behalf of these dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, - so we can keep on saying yes to the care they need. Starfish is now a 501c3, so your donations are all tax deductible. No amount is too small. Every bit matters. Every life we save matters.

Thank you so much.  We can never say that enough. Thank you.
