Stacy Rossin's Kidney Transplant

Donation protected
Message from Samantha- Stacy's Daughter

Many of you know my mom has a heart of gold and she is always giving to anyone in need.  She has always put others before her and would never ask for anything in return.  This is a time that we can all come together and help her in any way possible.

Stacy is currently recovering from her kidney transplant and won’t be able to work for 12 weeks.  Her insurance didn't cover her stay at her recovery house, along with many other expenses associated with her surgery.

She has had an in home daycare for the past 28 years and this is the first time that she has had to take off 12 weeks of work.  This means that she will have no income during this time.

She has been through so much these last four years waiting on a matched donor and we want to give her what she has given others her entire life. Lets help her with her expenses and make it so that she is stress free from finances during this time of recovery.

Please give what you can to support Stacy and share this with others.  Brandon and I are very determined to help raise the money necessary and support my mom.  For the different donation levels, we have come up with some things to give you in return for supporting this campaign.  We both are committed to giving our time and hard work to ensure we raise the necessary funds for her.

Family is everything and if you are able, please do what you can to support this cause. Every dollar helps! Thank you.  Your support means the world to us.

All money raised will go towards unpaid medical expenses, and currenting living expenses.

Our goal is to raise all of the money by Easter Weekend to make her favorite holiday one to remember!

A message from Stacy

It was a little over four years ago that I went into our local ER because I was having symptoms of bronchitis. They did several different labs and at that time I found out that my creatinine level was severely elevated and I was suggested to go and see my primary doctor. Shortly after this episode my husband’s place of employment decided to change health insurance companies and we were told we would need a complete physical by our physician. I made my appointment and during that visit I found out my creatinine level increased. My physician recommended I go to Mayo Clinic to see a doctor in Nephrology. I made my appointment at Mayo knowing that I could possibly have a kidney disease called Polycystic Kidney Disease that was hereditary from my mother’s side of the family. Upon completing my appointments and going through several tests and labs I found out that I was already in Stage V Renal Disease with my creatinine level being at 4.4. (Normal for a woman is 0.01-1.1.) At that point I knew I would need a kidney transplant in my future. This was something I really didn’t want to hear seeing there is no cure for this disease, but on the other hand I knew I could live a better life if I were to get a kidney transplant.

During the next four years of my life I went to many appointments to make sure my kidneys were still functioning and it wasn’t getting any worse than it was already. My doctors had talked with me about Dialysis, but I knew that is something I did not want to do after seeing my father go through that in his life. In August of 2013 I was finally approved to be put on the National Deceased Donor list after jumping through a lot of hoops to get there, which gave me so much hope. Mayo Clinic told me the average wait time for a deceased donor to come my way could be as long as 7+ years. I did not give up hope and still followed what my doctors told me to do each day.

As my every three-month appointments came up my creatinine continued to rise each time with my highest hitting 8.2. A lot of people were in awe on how I was evening functioning with this being so high. I would tell myself everyday that my day would eventually come where there would be a new kidney for me. Keeping a positive attitude and praying everyday to the good Lord helped me make it through all of this.

It was this past summer of 2016 that my oldest daughter Tara decided to get checked to see if she also had Polycystic Kidney Disease. With her being cleared of not having it she decided to go through the long process to see if she could donate one of her kidneys to me. She had one small set back, that being she had to wait for her son to turn one years old before she could continue on with the process. It didn’t take long after that that we found out that she was not able to give directly to me, but there was a program called the Paired Donor Program that we could enroll with, meaning that she could give her kidney to someone else that better matched her and Mayo Clinic would find someone to better match me. Tara decided to go with this route and they found a kidney that better matched me and they found someone that better matched her. This truly was a blessing after 4 long years of ups and downs. I was very excited with this news from my coordinator. I was set up for my transplant on March 14th and Tara gave her kidney on March 16th. The amount of people this helped is so amazing. We both are home recovering now and look forward to becoming healthier.
