Seven year old Stacie is affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Autism is a lifelong developmental condition that affects, among other things, the way an individual relates to his or her environment and their interaction with other people.
Stacie has returned to a new school term after having no one wanting to play with her over the two week holiday and no one at school was excited to see her. She is lonely. She is sad all the time. And this beautiful seven year old is depressed and hopeless.
Her Mum's heart is breaking and she feels helpless.
Stacie used to attend a Saturday kid's social group that was slowly teaching her social interaction skills and helping her confidence. But when council funding was cut, her family could no longer afford the $30/hour for three hours every fortnight.
I want to see Stacie smile again, give this child three hours of joy every couple of weeks and teach her that people, and life are good.
If we reach our goal, we can make Stacie smile for nearly a year and the skills she learns will carry her beyond.
