She was diagnosed with leukemia at 2 and then a relapse at 4.
Followed by a bone marrow transplant in 2006.
She was close enough to dying that they told me to think about the 'what if she doesn' make it' scenario.
All of this treatment left her with brain damage.
9 years later ...... another cancer diagnosis. She has recently been diagnosed with thyroid cancer which has spread to the lymph nodes.
She has had surgery to remove the entire thyroid and lymph nodes on the left side. The cancer has spread to lymph nodes on the right side.
Today she left the hospital after being in isolation since Friday for radio iodine treatment. This has left a child already pre disposed to cancer now exposed to more radio therapy which side effects include LEUKEMIA!!, stomach and saliva gland cancer, she has had to go to her sisters house and stay with a close family freind as she can not come home for another week as she is still classed as being radio active.
Im currently 28 weeks pregnant and we also have a 1 yr old who can not be exposed to radiation.
We will not know if this has worked or not for at least another 6 - 12 months.
We would love to raise funds for expenses, and (reliable vehicle) & also a family holiday which she would really enjoy.
in 2006 she was granted a 'make a wish' holiday we went to the gold coast, she was 2 weeks off her bone marrow transplant.
after 12 hrs of being there she was critically ill and was rushed to the emergency department of the gold coast hospital.
she was too unstable to air lift to brisbane or back to sydney hospital.
she stayed for 5 days in the gold coast hospital before being air lifted back to westmead childrens hospital in sydney.
her transplant was put on hold for 1 month while she recovered from that ordeal.
i asked the make a wish foundation if we could take another holiday as the last one was a total disaster and we didn't get to do anything except for stay in the hospital but they have refused.
