Odyssey of the Mind World Finals

On April 7, 2018, our team from St. Michael’s, comprised of six Grade 4 students and one Grade 3 student, competed at the BC Provincial Odyssey of the Mind Tournament.
We finished 1st in our problem category and age division and qualified to compete at the 2018 World Championships being held at Iowa State University from May 23 - 26, 2018.
We are one of the 14 teams representing Canada at this competition, among approximately 850 teams from around the world representing their area in the largest creative problem solving program in the world.
Odyssey of the Mind is a school-based, worldwide program that promotes creative problem solving for students from kindergarten through college. This unique program challenges students to work together as a team to find innovative solutions to a variety of technical and performance problems. By tapping into creativity, and through encouraging imaginative paths to problem solving, students learn skills that will provide them with an enhanced ability to solve problems.
Our team has been meeting every week since October to tackle Problem 5, a performance-based problem titled “The Stellar Hangout”. We were tasked with creating a humorous performance centered on a science fiction intergalactic hangout that included original creatures, foods, and a search for space treasure.
As a result of our hard work, we have earned the right to represent B.C. and Canada at the World Finals. However, in order to participate, we require financial support to cover travel, room and board, and other costs that will enable us and our coach/chaperones to attend the competition. Any support you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Tax receipts are available for donations of $25 or more (issued by the Creative Problem Solving Society, the non-profit registered charity that sponsors Odyssey of the Mind in BC).
