On July 10, 2006, Staff Sgt. Duane Dreasky, 31, of Novi, Michigan died of wounds incurred on November 21, 2005 during combat operations in Iraq. Dreasky was assigned to 1st Battalion, 119th Field Artillery, out of Lansing, Michigan, and attached to Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 125th Infantry Regiment, Saginaw, Michigan. 1-125 INF was part of Task Force Panther (1-110th INF), which was in turn was part of the 28th Infantry Division out of Pennsylvania.
On December 28th, 2018, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder signed Public Act 547 which enacted an amendment to 2001 PA 142, by adding Section 1081, which reads "The portion of highway M-5 between the intersection with 13 Mile Road and the intersecton with 14 Mile Road in the city of Novi shall be known as the "Staff Sergeant Duane J. Dreasky Memeorial Highway"."
The funds raised with this GoFundMe will be paying for the manufacture, installation, and maintenance of two signs (one to be placed at each end of the above stated section of M-5 in Novi, Michigan).
Duane was a son, brother, husband, uncle, friend, student, teacher, soldier, leader, and comrade. The people he interacted with in those roles were all left with indelible memories. I know this because served with him during his time in Iraq. Ironically I was his leader but I recognized something within him, a drive and passion as a leader, that I often asked him to lead. He NEVER turned down an opportunity to lead.
Please donate to help erect this signs as a lasting tribute to someone taken from this world too soon.
