SPOTLIGHT - Cancer Courage SET UP

Donation protected
PLEASE HELP ME FUND MY CHARITY SET UP.

As a young woman who went through cancer at the age of 18, I can honestly say that losing my hair was one of the hardest parts. I lost my identity, my self expression, my confidence, self esteem and any courage that I had.  I felt ugly and unattractive.

I want to empower cancer patients female or male. Help them to take back some of the power that the illness might have taken from them and celebrate their courage!!!

The idea is to have make up artists, photographers and hair stylists to help make them feel beautiful and express them selves. We can provide crazy wigs, (as well as well as normal ones) face paint, go from style to style until there’s no hair left, what ever they want.   A positive and courageous moment for them to take from such an awful diagnosis.

I am raising this money to help pay for an online service that helps submit applications and deal with all legalities of setting up a charity. I want this, but I want it done properly!! Any extra money raised will go towards buying photography equipment, wigs, props, make up, paying for volunteers expenses and potentially any courses that may benefit the charity.

THANK YOU! Anything that you can invest is greatly appreciated.

*A Little about my own cancer journey.*

When I was 18 I was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer.
I'd been to the doctors roughly about 5 times before anything happened. I was told I had a urine infection and given course of antibiotic after course of antibiotic - obviously with no luck.

It wasn't until I demanded to be examined properly that I was then sent for an ultrasound.  The doctor dismissed me when attending yet another appointment to receive my results. That was a Friday.

Monday I  was called in to Good Hope hospital to be told I had a tumour - it was 8 inches.  It didn't even cross my mind that it could be cancer and I was sent home.

On the Wednesday my mom called the hospital trying to push things further... she'd noticed the deterioration in me and thought I was dying - she was basically right.  By this time the tumour had attached itself to my bladder, my lungs and was millimeters away from my heart.  The hospital said to bring me in and gave me a CT scan and took bloods, the the doctors came back to get more bloods, then more...then my family were called back in being told that I was being transferred.... I wasn't! It was then that we were told that I had cancer.

On the Friday I was sent home to say good bye to my friends and family.  I was told I had a 30% chance of survival - not that I can remember. The tumour had now grown to 12 inches.

I was back in hospital Sunday night, ready for  surgery Monday afternoon - which got brought forward due to the state I was in.

During the surgery - the process of removing of cancer cells from my organs meant that my bladder was punctured and I bled out.  I was technically dead for 2 minutes before being given several blood transfusions.

The Monday after I started Chemo - I lost every single hair on my body..... I do have a good memory of that time though.

I decided to take my own hair, that cancer wasn't going to take it.  My mom and a friend of mine decided to cut my hair in crazy styles....  we just hacked at it randomly... cut it short, I had a mohawk and just a fringe....(which my mom still thinks I can get away with ) until finally I shaved my head completely all in hte space of an hour.  It was empowering and crazily it was fun.

Since then I've had further operations on my remaining ovary,  surgery on the hernias that I got due to the removal of the fatty tissue that covers your organs etc.. think its called the omentum? And due to that surgery going horribly wrong I had to have corrective abdominal surgery too.

It all seems like so long ago, yet only yesterday. I’ve been in remission for 13 years. Its been a long hard journey, and I still have my moments now..... but I'm in a good place and it's time for me to give back. It’s made me the strong willed, strong minded, determined person I am now. And I’m thankful for that.

Please invest anything you can to help make this charity happen.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
