We are Bath University Rocket Team!

We are a student engineering team from the University of Bath aiming to design and manufacture an experimental sounding rocket to take part in the Spaceport America Cup. This is an international student rocketry engineering competition held every year at the Virgin Galactic Spaceport in New Mexico. Currently we are one of only two UK teams.

Our rocket is using a solid fuel motor to reach a target apogee (height) of 10,000ft (3000m) while carrying a 4kg payload. Then it must return safely to the ground using a dual stage recovery system.

We have completed the design of our rocket and the next step is to begin the manufacture and testing to compete in June 2019. To do this we need sponsorship to cover the costs of materials, manufacture and testing, as well as transporting the rocket and the team to America to take part in the competition. We will begin this process as soon as possible.

Your support will enable us to take part in this exciting competition, and allow us to learn more about rocketry and engineering. We are grateful for any help you can give us!

We are also looking to do some rocket and engineering based outreach in schools during this academic year, and any extra sponsorship we gather will be put towards funding these outreach activities.

In addition, if you sponsor us for £5 or more we will include your name (at your discretion) amongst those of our other sponsors on the side of our finished rocket.

Hi Everyone!

Thank you so much for all your support!

We have had a very successful semester. We completed the redesign of the rocket, secured enough funding to purchase the components and manufacture the rocket, and our application to compete in the Spaceport America Cup was accepted!

We have now ordered most of the materials and components with the aim to start testing and assembly in the new year.

In addition, we have just used your donations to purchase the motor and solid fuel, which will propel our rocket to 10,000ft! This will be delivered directly to Spaceport America in June, and cost just under £1,130. This is by far our biggest expense, and conveniently is almost the exact amount you have all cumulatively donated so far!

Our volunteer projects teams have also been successful, with many of the teams presenting their hard work last week. We have also been organising more local outreach activities for the coming year.

We are extremely proud to have achieved this much, and are looking forward to what next year will bring.

Thank you for coming on our journey with us, your kindness and support has made this possible.

We hope you all have a lovely holiday!

Hi Everyone!

We are delighted to have raised £1,000 so far, thank you so much for all your support!

We are all back at university now and our university department has kindly given us a new workspace, where we will be able to continue our design work and eventually manufacture our rocket. We have been working to try and cut the cost of the rocket so that your donations will go further, and have been in communications with the engineering department finance team so that we have a secure and effective method of managing your donations.

However, we still have a long journey ahead of us before we will have enough funding to be able to start manufacturing our rocket. Therefore, any extra exposure you can give us is greatly appreciated.

We are excited and optimistic for this academic year and hopefully soon we will have something to show for our hard work!
