Andy’s Spine Surgery Recovery

On December 13th, 2018 I had emergency spine surgery. This was the second spine surgery in seven years. With my current insurance and financial situation, I must lean on friends, family, and the kindness of strangers to help pay for this since my insurance only covers so much. I have received several grants that have greatly reduced the cost but still have some left. Because of the complexity of the surgery due to my various illnesses and previous major spine operation, my expected healing and physical therapy is estimated to last one year.

Many of you know of my continuing lifelong medical journey. It started with my sudden illness and Behcet’s diagnosis in 2008. I went through many intensive medical treatments and then had subsequent life-saving spine surgery in 2011. I have made so much progress over the years leading into this year, but I know that treatment and management will be required for the rest of my life. There have been many ups and downs during this journey. But I am so thankful to be the present and able single father that I am today to my beautiful daughters. They are what I fight for everyday.
