Special Speaker Patch Adams

Hi! I’m Ashlyn a senior at Rappahannock County High School and a part of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program. Rappahannock is a small rural community with limited funding and an increasingly aging community. The students of the county have grown interested in medical careers and started various classes and organizations to show this interest.
As a part of CNA classes we had to learn about patient directed care. To do so the class sat down and watched the 1998 Robin Williams film Patch Adams and it instantly inspired all of us. The story of Patch Adams, an eccentric doctor in training that started the fight to personalize healthcare, earned a special place in the hearts of Rappahannock students.
Because of of this new inspiration, the CNA students and staff of our school decided to try and surprise the county and a few neighboring schools with the opportunity to hear Dr. Patch Adams speak in person. This is an opportunity to reach out and give our small community someone to look up to and aspire to be.
The goal is to raise extra money to make this dream a reality and bring a hero to our school. The money raised will bring Adams to our school and go to Adams organization, the Gesundheit! Institute, a “non-profit healthcare organization whose mission is to reframe and reclaim the concept of ‘hospital’.” Our school has already generously given $2,500 to our cause, but we need help from other selfless donators to help inspire the next generation of healthcare providers.
