SPAYDAY - Spay A Lao Stray

Donation protected

Spay a Lao stray and change lives! Every dollar counts.

Cats in Laos have a bit of rough deal. They're everywhere - thin, raggedly and mostly silent - slipping under a gate, over a roof or through gaps in a wall, looking for food but rarely finding a satisfying meal.

There aren't enough homes to care for them so  they breed unchecked and spread disease from worms and parasites.

Female cats are often continuously pregnant and a lack of food, care and general exhaustion puts a strain on their little bodies.

Kittens are usually malnourished and underweight too. They're weaned at 3-4 weeks - about half the time of an Australian kitten. Many Lao kittens don’t survive their first few months.

The Spayday campaign - We're rounding up as many neighbourhood strays as we can! I'm aiming for 15, both male and female but more would be great. The campaign runs right through May.

Our local vet - Animal Doctors International, the best vet practice in Laos, has generously offered to do the spaying at cost. This is a  fantastic discount :)

Each cat will be spayed, and given a rabies shot and worm and flea treatment.

How it works - I’ve spent about a year feeding the local strays in the hope of catching them myself. I managed it with one - a slightly silly ginger male (below, post-op). Why are ginger cats usually so silly?

But I’ve now asked my Lao neighbours to help - they catch the cats around their houses… and I’ll do the rest!

It’s really quite a simple plan.

About me - My name is Lani and I’ve lived in Vientiane for 3 years. I have 4 Lao cats! Read about my happy furballs on my blog - from street to sofa!

During my time in Laos, I’ve…

- Hand fed, reared and rehomed 3 kittens abandoned at a friend’s workplace
- Rescued and rehomed 2 kittens that turned up in my garden
- Caught and spayed 2 strays near my house
- Caught and spayed a mama cat from a workplace
- Adopted 3 of her kittens (2 didn’t make it)

So, I’ve seen at first hand the difficulties, and the difference that a simple spaying can make. It is quite literally life saving.

Please support me to spay as many of our neighbourhood strays as possible! Every dollar counts!

Ps. If you live in Laos, I'm happy to take cash or do a local bank transfer.

THANK YOU!
