This is Jo-Hannah.

She's just turned three, loves music, especially Johnny Cash karaoke, Robert Munsch books, and learning everything about the world around her. She has a room-ruler way with people and she's quick to tell you when its time to get back to work, but not before winning you over with a handful of jokes. And so sweet she never leaves without a hug.

Her and I until recently were strangers.

I first heard of Jo-Hannah from her grandmother, my neighbour Carol. She beams whenever she talks about "the love of her life" whether it be something wonderous she's done or just her cheeky toddler ways.

So with just a name at first, and knowledge of clearly just how much she is loved, comes my ambition. Please help me help Jo-Hannah!

See, Jo-Hannah was born with a condition called" Optic nerve hypoplasia/septo-optic nerve displaysia". This will inevitably mean the need for certain ‘extras’ most parents don't have to consider. Namely some very expensive medical/schooling equipment. For instance the Braillenote Touch 32, which would help Jo-Hannah learn to type in brail. Opening doors for her both in school and at home.

Why do this for her? ‘Why not’ comes to mind. Paying it Forward is great. However, this is keeping a promise for me.  A little over a year now, whilst travelling across a terrorist-testy Europe, we were confronted with enough angst to petition God for safe passage home for Christmas and in return I would do something bigger than me to help a stranger. We were granted a miraculous amount of help from strangers, in plenty of unimaginable situations, to get us back safe. This is holding up my end of the bargain.

Hearing about Jo-Hannah hit me like a brick. A more innocent deserving cause is impossible to find. Not only can this goal be achieved in a cool carnival of song and dance but it would also teach this strong independant little girl that sometimes good deeds just happen and communities and neighbours do still care and can rally to support each other.

We will be throwing a Sound4Vision benefit social bash Saturday August 12th, at the Kenora Curling club. Live music, great prizes and poutine bar are in store for everyone who attends!

Tickets can currently be purchased at:
- The Cornerstone Restaurant
- The Log Cabin Tavern
- Unfixed Cafe Lounge
- Hoolio & Goober
Every donation 25$ or more gets your name entered into our Door Prize draw (details to follow.) Winners will be announced at the event.

So with your assistance, and/or welcomed attendance, we can give one little person a life-changing boost to take on the world and realize some dreams most of us simply take for granted.
