"Sopko's Smile"

Donation protected
Nolan Sopko is an eight-year-old boy who was recently diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Nolan is an active, caring and athletic second grader who’s smile can light up a room! Type 1 Diabetes is a chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin, a hormone needed to allow sugar (glucose) to enter cells to produce energy. Nolan is insulin dependent for the rest of his life. He needs insulin before every snack and meal because his sugar levels can fluctuate quickly. At night he has an injection of Lantus, a longer lasting insulin, and he checks his levels at 11:30pm and again at 3am. His numbers have often dropped into the 40's at night which is very scary! When you or someone you love has diabetes, worry is a constant companion.
A service dog could detect when Nolan’s sugar is low or high while he is sleeping. The dog will try to wake him up and it will also inform his parents if there is a problem. These service dogs have saved people's lives! Sopko’s Smiles wants to raise money for Nolan to have his own service dog so that he and his family can have a little piece of mind knowing that Nolan is always being looked after.  The Service Dog is $10,000.  The sooner we raise the money, the sooner he will meet his life saving friend.  Any extra funds will go to children with diabetes and help raise money for a future cure.  We, the family of Nolan Sopko, are so grateful for your support.  We thank you with all our hearts.
