Sophia's Saving Grace

Sophia is a true miracle from God. Sophia was born at 36 weeks gestation at a whopping 6lbs 3ozs. That weight did not continue as she got older. She was born in stage 3 renal failure. Doctors knew during her moms pregnancy that there was a problem with on of her kidney's. Once born doctors quickly learned she was also born with anal malformations. Imperforate Anus was far from anything anyone expected or the family knew anything about. She suffers also from Hydronephrosis. Which means she has excess fluid in her kidney. She underwent surgery to have a colostomy put on within 24 hours after birth.  Sophia had her left nub of a kidney removed to prevent further reflux  of urine and infection She also suffers from Chronic UTI'S which usually means several days in the hospital. Within the first year of her life we learned she had vaginal malformations and a totally non-functioning left kidney. There have been upwards of 20 surgeries in Sophia's four years on this earth. Sophia has a gtube that she takes her medicine through. She is on 7-8 meds daily. She will face a kidney transplant one day, but for now we are working hard to keep that a bay. She has three specialist who are absolutely wonderful. Her pediatric surgeons have kept her alive without hesitation. I have worked to now get her an amazing opportunity to meet with the directors of the anal malformation center in Colorado. Dr. Pena is the founder of the surgery for anal malformation. We are asking for any donation no matter how small to help us fly there when we get the word. We will be there several days staying in a hotel and rental car. We have no word yet if Sophia's insurance will cover her going to meet these doctors. There is nothing we won't do to get her there. Sophia is a ray of sunshine to anyone who meets her. She is a strong little girl who never complains when she knows what surgeries will mean for her. I could never handle the pain and recovery like she has.
