Sonam's Scholarship

Donation protected
Sonam is a young man from Nepal who lost his father on April 25th when the first earthquake struck. His parents were working hard to send him to the United States to study Civil Engineering at the University of Southern Alabama. When the earthquake struck, Sonam returned home to assume his father's role in caring for his mother and younger sister. Unfortunately, this meant that Sonam's dream - and his father's -  of graduating from college was also taken from him.

Project SENA - a scholarship program originating in Phoenix, Arizona -  aims to re-create the opportunity Sonam has lost and has established a Scholarship Fund in his name to help him re-discover the opportunity of graduating from college and pursuing the life his father and mother wanted for him.

I met Sonam in Nepal while there for disaster relief efforts in coordination with the Tilganga Institute of Ophtahlmology. We met Sonam through mutual friends and learned of his - and his family's - story of loss. We want to help Sonam get back to his studies so that he can return to Nepal as a civil engineer - something his country will need as they rebuild for decades to come. All funds raised here will go directly to paying for tuition costs and all other related costs for Sonam to finish his degree. Donations will be administered through Project SENA (www.projectsena.org).
