Social Worker here I come!

As many of you know I crossed the stage back in May after two very long years pursuing my Masters in Social Work. This has been quite a journey as a single mother, involved student, and Campus and community organizer. I’ve had my share of challenges but I have persevered. I fully intended to complete everything by May but due to an unfortunate series of events including having surgery, breaking my foot and totaling my car I was forced to finish my field placement in the summer and completed it on July 3rd.

Although I passed all of my classes my university requires a student to be registered in the semester that they apply for their degree. I found this out after I completed my placement and applied for my degree. They let me know that I had to register for a class or they would not accept my application for degree. I have been out of work for most of the year due to medical issues and a very full graduate school schedule.

I did not expect to be billed for a class that I did not take or need in order to get my degree. The University suggested that I register for classes part-time and take out a loan even though I have met all of my degree requirements and do not need anymore classes. This is academia and capitalism at its finest. I’ve gone into enough debt trying to help myself while I help my community. I believe that I know more than enough people who believe in me and/or the work that I do to give a couple of dollars towards this! 

I would really appreciate your help paying this bill so that I can move on with my life and provide for myself and my daughter. I have wholly dedicated myself to my community and Campus and could really use some support.
