Mounted Water Protectors
Donation protected
Our Mission:
We are headed out to the Oceti Sakowin camp at Standing Rock to offer support to the varying coalitions of mounted water protectors and bring much needed supplies ahead of coming winter.
Our Objective:
Horses are sacred and symbolic to the Lakota Sioux. Called the Horse Nation--their livelihoods have been tied to their horses for centuries. History remembers the Lakota as the great warrior horsemen.
Their horses have been shot, sprayed with tear gas, lobbed with concussion grenades, and killed. Yet they’ve stood calm and firm. Many of them are rescues—they were bought at auction, the last stop before the slaughterhouse, and humanely trained to carry riders by young native boys.
We are going to Oceti Sakowin to fortify the mounted protectors and to bring equestrian supplies and offer whatever support the mounted division of water protectors need:
+ Horse feed, hay, and straw for winter warmth.
+ There is a shortage of tack—especially saddles—on camp.
**We’ve started a tack drive—(contact us if you have some to offer!)—but need funds to supply what we do not generate in donation.**
+ Blankets for a number of the horses, considering the onset of winter.
+Water Trough Heaters
+Power Generators
+Solar Chargers
+Head Lamps for horse care in the dark
What is not spent on horse equipment will go toward supplies for the Oceti Sakowin Camp water protectors.
+ Camping gear for harsh winters—blankets, sleeping bags, winter boots.
