Bro. Al's SnackPax for Kids Detroit
Thanks to the generosity of good-hearted benefactors I've been able to keep things going all these years. Opportunities and stuff just arrive in the nick of time! Prayers have definitely been answered! Recently, however, I've been praying for someway to keep our SnackPax children's meal program up and running for the remainder of the year.
We give out hand decorated lunch bags filled with breakfast bars, juice and fruit cups to Metro Detroit kids who are nutritionally challenged. Some contents are donated, some we have to buy. We also operate a food pantry at a local charter school which 144 four-year-olds attend, all living below the poverty level. I've been told by the person who "pays the bills" we will have to cut back. Frankly, I don't want to...and for a very good reason: Schools close during the summer months and schools are where most poor chiildren get their main meals. That means that rather than cutting back this time of year we actually have to increase our production of SnackPax!
Like I said, prayers have been answered along this line all my life in ministry. Maybe discovering this GoFundMe site is just an answered prayer in a high-tech way ;-)
If you can help with this challenge, God bless you!
Peace and all Good!

Greetings from the SnackPax GoFundMe site!
Three years ago I reached out to the wider community asking for help to keep our outreach to the needy kids of metro Detroit up and running. Our hope was to sustain it through donations until such time as coordinated volunteer efforts could take over. Well, happily, we have reached that point! In the meanwhile our Care'avan broke down and needed to be replaced. Some of you were there for us as well and made that happen!
So now the time has come to call an end to this particular campaign with very grateful hearts! On behalf of all the many we serve on a regular basis, Thank You All So Very Much! Happy Easter! Happy Passover! Happy Life!
Peace and all good!

It has been awhile since my last update and that's because there has been a lot going on! Song and Spirit's headquarters as well as my living quarters have both moved out of our old location! Anyone who has ever moved understands, I'm sure ;-) I am happy to say, however, that none of these changes affected our ability to keep our outreach to those in need up and running! Thanks to the support of our benefactors, like you! our amazing outreach czar Gregory Allen! and lastly, our Care'avan. As you know the Care'avan has been falling apart and everyone knew it would not be able to handle another Michigan winter. Thankfully we have found a replacement (see the attached photo) It had a former life at Catholic Central High School, is in excellent mechanical shape and is within our price point! (under $10,000) The vehicle is waiting for us at Varsity in Novi while I raise the $8,500 purchase price. That's about $5,000 less than such a van usually sells for. Thank you Jere Law, General Manager! Anyway, a generous supporter of Song and Spirit has already pledged $5,000 towards the purchase of the van. My job is to raise the remaining $3,500. So, this is my hope: to raise the remaining $3,500, purchase the "new" van and then retire this GoFundMe initiative. While we haven't met the goal of $25,000, nonetheless, it has "saved the day" many times over and bought us the time we needed to ensure that our SnackPax project to kids in need will continue to go on! So, if you can help with this last appeal, I thank you from the bottom of my heart! Wishing all of our Jewish friends a blessed High Holidays! Peace and all good! Bro. Al, ofm
The last time I sent out an update it was about the failing condition of our outreach Care'Avan. Well we're still praying for a replacement but there is still so much to be grateful for...like the beautiful friends who stop by to make hundreds of SnackPax for the kids we serve. Check out the picture taken this past Monday!
