My name is Brother Al Mascia. I am a Franciscan friar and have been serving the poor in Metro Detroit for 8 years in a variety of ways. Just google my name and you will get more information and videos about that.  You can go to my website too: www.BrotherAl.org . Find out more about my other work at www.SongandSpirit.org.

Thanks to the generosity of good-hearted benefactors I've been able to keep things going all these years.  Opportunities and stuff just arrive in the nick of time! Prayers have definitely been answered! Recently, however, I've been praying for someway to keep our SnackPax  children's meal program up and running for the remainder of the year.

We give out hand decorated lunch bags filled with breakfast bars, juice and fruit cups to Metro Detroit kids who are nutritionally challenged. Some contents are donated, some we have to buy. We also operate a food pantry at a local charter school which 144 four-year-olds attend, all living below the poverty level.  I've been told by the person who "pays the bills" we will have to cut back. Frankly, I don't want to...and for a very good reason: Schools close during the summer months and schools are where most poor chiildren get their main meals. That means that rather than cutting back this time of year we actually have to increase our production of SnackPax!

Like I said, prayers have been answered along this line all my life in ministry. Maybe discovering this GoFundMe site is just an answered prayer in a high-tech way ;-)

If you can help with this challenge, God bless you!

Peace and all Good!

So, this is how things work around here: something breaks...people help...it gets fixed! Last week the Care'avan was out of commission, this week it's delivering SnackPax and lots of other food all over Metro Detroit! Realistically the vehicle's days are numbered but your enthusiastic and generous response to last week's muffler crisis has inspired me to set some things in motion so that we can get a replacement! That's our hope. Keep posted good friends and THANKS SO MUCH!

So, I was just about to post an end of year update when our main man Greg knocked on my office door to tell me that the Care'avan had just lost its muffler while returning from serving Shir Tikvah chili to the homeless in downtown Detroit! Right on the Fifth Day of Christmas and the Sixth Night of Chanukah. Oy! Check out the little video. Anyway, please know how grateful all of us are for all of your generous support throughout the year! On behalf of the many you help us serve, Thank You! Wishing you all a blessed New Year!!!

Hello everyone! Didn't have time to post the most recent Ice Cream social pictures we hosted for our SnackPax recipients but thought you'd be interested in this video which shows some of the other work the Care'Avan does. Part of our SnackPax project expenses is to keep this beast on the road!!! Peace/Shalom! Bro. Al, ofm

Actually, it's not at all rare for Nuns or, rather, religious Sisters to be seen doing good and caring for the community. We have them to thank for many hospitals, schools, hospices etc. It does, however, bring a smile to my face whenever I see our very own Sr. Francesca hard at work making SnackPax with our other friends from Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church ;-) This picture is from an "assembly" that took place just last week and for which we are very grateful!!! BTW we are almost 1/3rd of the way to our goal! Peace and blessings! Bro. Al, ofm
A rare "nun sighting" ;-) Sr. Francesca!

Wish I could do more. There is another supply of soup waiting in the CST freezer as soon as the muffler is repaired!
