As many of you know, a week ago today (01/04/17) our dear family friend, Sligh, (Richard "Steve" Tucker), was robbed at gunpoint while working at the food store, and then shot in the face.
He is in Trauma ICU at Orange Park Medical Center.
Of course Sligh is very fortunate to be alive in this situation, however, as tough a guy as he is, he has been really struggling this past week.
He is now aware of what has happened to him which is obviously a very disturbing thing to discover, so he has been a bit emotional. However, yesterday while fighting through the pain and confusion, he was his old witty self and made us laugh a few times!
The bullet went in his cheek and exited thru the top of his head so his head is hurting him very badly. His legs have been moving uncontrollably which is frustrating him because he doesn't understand why. We are told it's damage to the brain, we just don't know the extent of it yet. For what he's been through, he looks great. He just doesn't feel great.
It's been very difficult for all of us to see someone we care about so much, someone so kind and giving who would never hurt anyone, suffering the way he is because of one selfish, violent individual.
Sligh is such a hard worker - and although he typically works 7 days a week, he always seems to find the time to go biking and kayaking, just being out in nature, or spending time with the fur babies, Hannah, Georgie and Rosie.
Our prayers are that Sligh will have the opportunity to do all those things he did before.
We have no idea when he will be able to return to work, but we do know it will be a long recovery ahead. He has already been without income for a week now and we can't begin to imagine what his medical expenses will be so I'm asking our friends and family for help.
I can assure you that every dollar given will go toward Sligh's living expenses and medical bills as well, and is very much appreciated. Remember, every little bit helps!
