Stephanie and Nicoles Sleep Out

Hi everyone,
We are 2nd year Social Work students at UWS in Paisley, and we are currently on placement in Kirkhaven resettlement project in the East End of Glasgow which is ran by Crossreach. The service provides accommodation and support to single men and women who are aged 18 to 65 who are homeless. At present, there are 14 supported individuals who have a variety of needs including mental health issues, addictions, and physical disabilities.
In the past, service users have been funded by a third party agency to go to a therapeutic cottage in Pitlochry for a few nights respite, however, due to budget cuts this is no longer available unless the service provide their own funds. A short break away is something that we all take for granted, but for the service users at Kirkhaven this can have a positive impact on their overall wellbeing.
We want to fundraise for the service, in order to give something back and provide the opportunity for the service users to go to Pitlochry again for a few days holiday. We have decided that we are going to sleep rough in the city centre of Glasgow, to raise awareness of homelessness and to get a snippet into the experiences of some of the people we have worked with whilst on placement. For us, it’s only one night, but for many it is the harsh reality of daily life.
We will be sleeping out on the night of the 15th of March from 8pm until 6am the next morning. We hope that you will support us so that we can support those at Kirkhaven to get a holiday. Any donations are appreciated, thanks in advance.
