This is my gorgeous brother Lua.
A native of Drogheda, Ireland - he now lives in Napier, New Zealand where he is a secondary school teacher. He is 38 yrs old and him and his fiancée Anna, have three fantastic children - Mia (age 10), son Iarlaith (age 2) and 1yr old baby daughter Caoimhe - and yes, I am a biased proud auntie!
Unfortunately Lua’s recent brain scans have shown a regrowth of the brain tumour he had previously underwent surgery and treatment for 6yrs ago. The tumour was a Grade III anaplastic astrocytoma which is now mutating to a Grade 4 glioma - it’s an aggressive cancer.
Anyone who knows Lua can attest to his zest for life, his sense of divilment and his optimistic character. He remains positive despite having to recently give up work and deal with the increasing debilitating effects of the tumour. He will be hospitalised soon and will undergo risky brain surgery (whilst awake!) on 26th February 2019.
This fundraiser aims to raise money towards the mounting expenses that are occurring as Lua and Anna deal with this illness.
On a personal note, Lua is my baby brother. I was 7 when he was born and he was my shadow until I left home. He later went on to explore and travel the world, always regaling me with his tales. I love him dearly, as do my parents and 4 other siblings. We want Anna and his young children to have as much special time with him as they can without financial worry.
Lua is named after the mythological Celtic hero, ‘Lugh Lámh Fhada’ - Lua of the Long Arm - so let’s all extend the hand of friendship back to Lua at this difficult time. Imagine you’re heading to meet him for a chat and sure just throw the price of a drink or two into this fundraiser - a virtual ‘toast’ to great company - SLAINTÉ LUA!
