After having experienced working in the Chemical Dependency / Substance Abuse Treatment "industry" I was unsettled by the fact that the "success" rate is dismally low.  A widely held statistic is that 1 out of 10 clients actually make it (the reality is 5%).  A few problems were immediately obvious to me. The treatments offered only addressed the symptoms, i.e., the substance abuse. The idea that I am "not going to use, just for today." The deeper problem underlying the substance use or as one therapist put it "the things no one wants to talk about" were rarely addressed. In my experience these "core issues," the real problems, are always emotional with some form of anxiety underlying virtually all addictive behaviors. 

I have put together a new process that addresses the core emotional issues that drive addictive behavior. An addiction is ANY behavior that a person uses to avoid feeling their emotions. This is not Treatment as Usual. This is emotional work that can empower a person to make lasting change. I have three interwoven areas that make up the process: emotion work, mindfulness practice, and development of a life vision / purpose. This combination "re-imagines" what recovery looks like. No longer is the person identified by their addictive behavior, e.g., I'm an alcoholic or addict; no longer is the person relegated to ongoing meetings about their addiction in order to maintain their sobriety; and finally, the person is no longer controlled by unaddressed subconscious emotional issues. True freedom from addiction is possible.

Based on my experience working in a residential treatment setting, I have devised a curriculum that walks a person through the recovery process. This is a 30-day residential recovery retreat program that is unique in that guests will receive a ONE HOUR DAILY INDIVIDUAL SESSION with a qualified "guide" to facilitate them in addressing their core emotional issues.

Accomodations will be in single bedrooms allowing the guest the privacy and time to engage in the emotional work. We do not believe that individuals who are struggling and need help or their families should be taken advantage of in their time of need. Total cost for daily individual guidance and private room all inclusive will be $7,500. There is no comparable program ANYWHERE for any price to our knowledge.

Community Impact:
SIRIUS*RECOVERY’s efforts will have a direct and immediate positive impact on the community as a whole. After two years of operations funding will have been utilized to directly assist up to 96 people suffering from the disease of addiction. At Year 3 the number will jump to 288 persons and after only five years of operations the number will be 672. For client’s coming from an average family of four with and belonging to their own family of four this will indirectly impact 5,376 family members by returning sober fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters to their families. We will have also kept 672 people off the roadways from driving while intoxicated, kept them from participating in criminal activities associated with substance use, prevented numerous instances of domestic violence that occur with substance use, and most importantly returned a healthy and productive member of the community.

The Request
We are seeking funding for initial startup costs to make this vision a reality.  This includes a lease on an appropriate 5 to 6 bedroom home, furnishings, and initial startup expenses.  We esitmate that $75,000 will provide the seed money necessary to get the operation off the ground.  We are hoping to be able to sign a lease on a property inJanuary 2017 and begin operations immediatley thereafter.
