Single Mom and Med Student in Need

Hello Friends. I am making this appeal on behalf of a dear friend of mine, Uche, who is a final year medical student at Howard University College of Medicine. She obtained my bachelor’s degrees in Physics and Biomedical Engineering from Xavier University of Louisiana and Tulane University respectively, in 2013. She has also successfully completed her first 3 years of medical school. She is a mother to her 3-year old son who she currently cares for alone while being a full-time medical student because of visa issues that have prevented her husband from being with them at this time.

Uche is currently in desperate need for financial assistance to pay off an outstanding balance of $18,000 for the Spring 2018 tuition and fees at Howard University College of Medicine, pay $25,000 for the upcoming fall 2018 semester, and well as raise funds for her residency application expenses. Without paying off these debts, she has been informed that she will not be able to resume her studies on August 27th, 2018, nor start her residency application in September.  In the past, she had successfully secured private loans with the aid of a co-signer to cover her expenses. Unfortunately, however, she has not been able to secure any more loans since January 2018 because the regulations for securing a private loan with a cosigner have recently changed. She was able to find a cosigner for her loan application, but he could not meet some of the new requirements, and she has not been able to find anyone else. As an international student, she does not qualify for federal school loans, so that is not an option.  Also, because of the current economic meltdown and currency devaluation in Nigeria, securing any funds from family or friends has been nearly impossible. Her savings are drained, and she does not have any means of paying for her academic expenses or even living expenses for her and her son.

Please help Uche pay for her tuition and expenses so that she can successfully graduate and begin her residency in 2019. Her chosen specialty is family medicine which she is very passionate about as she desires to work with the undeserved both in the United States and in Africa. Please, she has only 10 months left to graduate; help her and her family to successfully finish this journey. Thank you very much for your generosity.
