Dear Friends,

Times being what they are, I have felt a strong calling to record songs again.  It’s what I do to shine a little light on my piece of the darkness.  On March 1st I began the process of recording two new CDs.  I’m working with a wonderful engineer, Phil Heaven, and with some outstanding musicians, including my daughters Jen and Kristin.

The challenge for us as independent musicians these days is funding these projects.  More and more folks choose to download songs from sites such as Spotify rather than purchase CDs.  Most of my previous CDs are there, but I’ll receive, at best, about a penny a song.  So what to do?  How do we pay for the studio time, musicians, manufacturing, graphic artists, and all the other costs involved in creating our recordings?

My answer to that question in part is that I’m asking you to come and participate in this project with me.  I’m estimating the cost of producing both CDs, including studio time, musician costs, manufacturing,  promotion and distribution expenses to be around $8,500.00. If you can help defray some of these costs with a donation of whatever you can afford, that would be wonderful.  If you can contribute $20 or more, I’ll send you both CDs when they are completed as a thank-you.

Here’s what’s coming in the two CDs:

The first recording is called Into the Promise of Morning,  a collection of comfort songs for the bedside.  Some of you know that I am now employed as a Clinical Musician with Hospice of the Northwest….a job I love.  This CD follows “Carry Us Through This Night”, a recording I released in 2012.  I hope it will be useful to bedside singers, other clinicians, and anyone who may benefit from the healing and comfort of music.

The second recording, Singing the News, is more topical. It will include “Me, Too”,   “Til Our Beauty Saves the World”, in honor of the Parkland high school students,  “We Are the Rainbow Sign”, an environmental  wake-up,  “Never Again”, and many more songs of hope, courage, whimsy, history, love and death.

I believe music can heal, educate and empower.  It’s why I do what I do.  Let’s do this together.

And please consider sharing this link!

Thank you!

It's a big day. After 57 days in the studio, both CDs are finally finished! "Singing the News" should be in our hands the last week of December, and we'll get it in the mail to you. It's 20 songs of hope, courage, whimsy, history, love, and death. I am so grateful to Phil Heaven, my engineer, to Bob Paltrow, the graphic artist, and to the dozen musicians who worked so hard on this recording. And of course, to all of you!!

My hope is that I'll be able to raise funds for the balance of expenses, but either way, it will happen. I would never have gone this far without you.

Scott has been working on building a new web site, so the new www.lindasongs.com should be up and running within a few weeks, with links to all lyrics and notes, upcoming events, scrapbook, easy ordering, and so much more.

Please mark Saturday, April 13th on your 2019 calendar. We'll be planning a Food Bank benefit and a celebration of my 50 years as a working musician. We'll be highlighting this newest CD with most of the musicians who recorded with me including our daughters, Jen and Kristin.

So lots of news! And so much to be grateful for.
More later, but for now, may you be surrounded with the kind of loving support I have received from all of you over this past year to bring this project to birth.

Gratefully,
Linda

Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday, and I'm getting ready to Give Back to all of you amazing donors who have so faithfully supported this project. THANK YOU! I could never have come this far without your support.

On Day 56 in the studio, Phil and I sorted through all the choices and are preparing to send "Singing the News" off to be manufactured. Bob Paltrow is working on the graphics. And Scott is working on our new web site, to be launched about the time the CD arrives. There will be an easy way to purchase CDs or download individual songs, and lyrics by album and category, special pages for Suffrage presentations, Therapeutic Music, and so much more!

And please, SAVE THE DATE of April 13th! We'll have a CD release, food bank benefit, and celebration of my 50 years as a working musician! In Bellingham...details to come.

May you be given a heart full of reasons to be thankful this week!

Day 52 in the studio today, as we move closer to completing "Singing the News". We have had some amazing musicians in over the past few weeks: Jan Peters, banjo, bouzouki, and harmonica; Kitty King on bass; Julian Smedley on violin, guitar and viola, and Jerry Steinhilber on drums. So much talent!

This would never be happening without all of your donations. We are close to our goal! It is my hope to have this in your hands by the holidays.

Sending love from this grateful heart!
