How Can I Keep From Singing

Donation protected
April, 2018

Dear Friends,

Times being what they are, I have felt a strong calling to record songs again.  It’s what I do to shine a little light on my piece of the darkness.  On March 1st I began the process of recording two new CDs.  I’m working with a wonderful engineer, Phil Heaven, and with some outstanding musicians, including my daughters Jen and Kristin.

The challenge for us as independent musicians these days is funding these projects.  More and more folks choose to download songs from sites such as Spotify rather than purchase CDs.  Most of my previous CDs are there, but I’ll receive, at best, about a penny a song.  So what to do?  How do we pay for the studio time, musicians, manufacturing, graphic artists, and all the other costs involved in creating our recordings?

My answer to that question in part is that I’m asking you to come and participate in this project with me.  I’m estimating the cost of producing both CDs, including studio time, musician costs, manufacturing,  promotion and distribution expenses to be around $8,500.00. If you can help defray some of these costs with a donation of whatever you can afford, that would be wonderful.  If you can contribute $20 or more, I’ll send you both CDs when they are completed as a thank-you.

Here’s what’s coming in the two CDs:

The first recording is called Into the Promise of Morning,  a collection of comfort songs for the bedside.  Some of you know that I am now employed as a Clinical Musician with Hospice of the Northwest….a job I love.  This CD follows “Carry Us Through This Night”, a recording I released in 2012.  I hope it will be useful to bedside singers, other clinicians, and anyone who may benefit from the healing and comfort of music.

The second recording, Singing the News, is more topical. It will include “Me, Too”,   “Til Our Beauty Saves the World”, in honor of the Parkland high school students,  “We Are the Rainbow Sign”, an environmental  wake-up,  “Never Again”, and many more songs of hope, courage, whimsy, history, love and death.

I believe music can heal, educate and empower.  It’s why I do what I do.  Let’s do this together.

And please consider sharing this link!

Thank you!
