Bob Simons, a Cromwell resident for 60 years, was diagnosed in 2008 with CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) and now needs a KIDNEY TRANSPLANT.
Bob met his loving wife Doreen in their senior year of high school, they married in 1971 and started their family the next year. They now have a daughter, Michele; son, Chris; son-in-law, Jeremy; daughter-in-law, Becky and three granddaughters, Jordan, Samantha and Marissa.
Finding a kidney match is difficult and takes time. There are several factors to consider and chances of finding a match can be one in millions. Today, approximately 75% of people who receive a kidney transplant from a living donor maintain their kidney function for 10 to 20 years. (Columbia University Medical Center). Since a living donor is the best choice, the search began with Bob's wife, Doreen. As it turns out, Doreen wasn’t only a perfect match for a wife but was a match for Bob as a kidney donor as well. What are the odds that the woman he loves would be a match!
The good news is that Bob can have a kidney transplant within months. The bad news is that now the Simons Family has to come up with enough money for both Bob and Doreen to live on for at least 4 - 6 weeks while they both recover from surgery, along with the medical and prescription expenses.
Because having a kidney transplant is a life or death situation for Bob, there's no question the surgery must be done. Therefore, the Simons Family is pleading for help. They will be hosting a few fundraising events in October, 2016. Details to follow.
