Silver Springs Film Equipment
Most of us have great memories of our youth at Silver Springs. Certainly a part of that was the glass bottom boat ride. Virginia, Oscar and Roosevelt are the last of the boat drivers left from that era. Then there is Leon Cheathom with fifty years of service doing just about every job at the Springs. They have all seen so much and been so helpful to so many. Leon went down river with me a while back and I recorded him with an Iphone and learned much about a river I thought I knew. I think I realized then that these historians of the river deserve better than an Iphone interview.
I don’t have the funds to do what needs to be done. I want to record them with the kind of cameras we use for National Geographic and others so that the footage won’t be dated in ten years. I want to call on other local filmmakers to help. We will need money for hard drives, lighting and a sound recordist. I will contribute an Epic RED 6K Dragon for picture. Because we will be using 6K cameras we can easily shoot a terra-byte a day! I also plan to edit a short out of this including some of my own hi-res footage. So with editing and hard drives and lots of extra help the bill could easily run several thousand dollars. The finished project will be given to the Silver River museum and to Silver River State Park. Contributions can be donated in any denomination, those giving over five hundred dollars will see their name in the credits. For our kids and their kids and if nothing else for the remaining drivers and those of us who realize how rare these folks and the Silver River is, we thank you for wanting to be apart of this.
I was a guest speaker at the Silver Springs Film Festival last year. I loved the area and actually was trying to do something similar. Unfortunately I moved to Georgia for production work. I would still love to be a part of this production. I am well connected with crew and equipment. Let me know if you are interested.
Folks are still helping out, inspiring us to knock this out of the park!
Hey Mark, I'll always help. If I don't have it I'll find someone who does. I'm so proud of you and your wonderful love of the springs and Florida nature. It's just really cool to be so like minded...rare for me. Hi to Mary..be well.
