Sick Senior Sisters Seek Support

Donation protected
My name is Myra. This is story is about me and my siblings. You may know my brother Roger from Broward County Transit where he drove a bus for many years before becoming disabled, or you might know him from his antique business.  And just this year Roger passed away. You might know my sister Anne from her antique store, “Epipsychidion”, or from her work at Broward County Records or all her volunteer time at Castle Gardens Condo Association. We were 3 adult siblings living together – each of us struggling with chronic health issues, but supporting one another.  Mom raised us to take care of one another and we are trying to do just that.

Let’s go back a few years… Roger and Anne, seeing how far their limited income stretched in Fort Lauderdale (spoiler alert: not very far) moved to Reddick, Florida. This small town, with its quiet life and lower cost of living, seemed like the ideal place to make the best of what they had. When they purchased a home there, they thought ahead and bought one large enough for three, knowing that I would be needing housing eventually.  So they were completely ready for me when I was in a position to come live here. It’s lucky I was able to come when I did, as Roger could not drive any more and Anne’s still not driving. We all have our health issues,  the challenges are just a little more than we can handle together so I am asking for help.

Roger recently died of Kidney cancer, there was no surgical treatment that would save him, no drug that would definitely improve his life so we did comfort care and then hospice.  I have lots of nice things to say about The Hospice of Marion County, they were very helpful.

My sister Anne’s problem right now is her balance and her heart. She’s had 3 surgeries at the hospital to put in stents and to re-route some veins.  She has had continuing issue with cellulitis and lymphadema so getting her well enough for Cataract surgery is a good trick.  We got one eye done and are awaiting the other.  She has a $375 copay habit each and every month just for prescriptions.  (And that's using the Walmart Insulin)

And then there is me.  I have to have a long overdue gynecological surgery (or two) myself.  I have had to put it off for a while but maybe soon.  Anne needs help with remembering her meds.  If I go to hospital I will need coverage at home. I have my own copay habit I spend about 600$ for Insulin which is the cheaper Walmart insulin.

We used to sorta get the ends to meet when we had Roger's income too.  But now he is gone and we are working on figuring it all out.  It would be a lot easier to get all this done if we weren’t perpetually worried about our cash flow.  So I am asking.  I wish we were cuter.  But we are funny, and I hope that helps!
