Shortley Family Handicapped Van

Donation protected
Life in our golden years does not look like what I thought it would.  Instead of freedom and fun, it's complicated, scary and frustrating. As a caregiver to two adults in wheelchairs, my husband and my daughter, a toll is being taken on my body.  They require full time care and it all falls on me.  For 10 + years, with both of them being physically disabled, we have utilized manual and electric wheelchairs and they have transferred in and out of vehicles.  We are rapidly approaching a point where they are becoming unable to transfer and I am becoming physically unable to help move them.  Additionally, it has become extremely difficult for me to load and unload their chairs.  As a result, I cannot get them to their doctor's appointments. My husband lost his business when he became disabled at age 53.  We live on our rapidly decreasing retirement and his Social Security Disability.  Our goal is to get a handicapped van that can accomodate both my husband and my daughter in their chairs.  If you are able to help in anyway it would be the biggest blessing.  We recently acquired an enormous hospital bill from Jim's three month stay in four different hospitals.  We've also been back to the ER since that episode.  I always say that God has a strange sense of humor, but luckily I do too.  I'm praying that we get through this trial. Thank you for the support and prayers.
