While we may not have experienced the pain of losing one's parents and siblings at the same time, Vincent and Amina from Jos and Maiduguri, Nigeria, did.
They talked about the tortuous pain of waking up to find their love ones dead without even a proper goodbye. They felt they were going to die too, before they were brought to the orphange home where they found solace in other kids.
Neglect, in so many ways contributes to the mental and physical deterioration of children which result to an imbalanced lifestyle.
When a child is taken to an orphanage home, the future of that child is unpredictable. Majority of the staffs who work in the orphanage homes have little or no knowledge about ‘getting personal’ with the kids. Just like every other job, the staffs are more concerned in delivering their roles as offical as it comes(bathing, feeding, cleaning) efficiently.
Little or no personal attention is given to all the kids in the orphanage.
Shelves and Shelter is a project classified into two catgories:
Shelter: Training of the staffs (by professional psychologists) in the orphanages located in the Northern, Nigeria.
Shelves: The donation of over a hundred literary books, and basic relief materials to the children in selected displaced homes in Northern part of the country, (children who were displaced by Boko Haram).
