Shelly's wheelchair van & bump cap!

Donation protected

Hi! My name is Katie. I am the daughter of Delaine "Shelly" Lewis! She was in a bike accident 10 years ago. She hit head first causing a TBI (traumatic brain injury) which has resulted in over 30 surgeries, removal of her temperal lobe (about 25% of her brain) leaving her paralyzed on her right side, blind in her right eye and deaf in her left ear, without 1/4th of her skull and dependent on others 24 hours out of the day. My mom has come so far. They told us she would not walk, talk, remember us or even eat on her own. She has proved all doctors wrong and is truly a miracle. In the past year she has been wanting  to feel more independent and has been able to achieve that with her new electric wheelchair and wheelchair van she got! My grandmother did everything in her power to set her up for success before she sadly passed away in October. Unfortunetly, our house was 1 of many that got hit by the crime sprees in Eugene recently. My mother's van, along with her bump cap (a helmet that is required for her to wear while traveling since she doesn't have all of her skull. It could be deadly if she were to travel without it) was stolen from us. My mom has multiple doctors appointments during the week that are vital for her health and wellness. We have had to cancel all of them until we resolve this awful situation. She only has liability on the van since it was 100% paid for. That leaves us needing the theives to return her van WITH her bump cap, OR replacing them so she can leave the house. Until then, she is completely homebound (and NOT happy about it might i add) LOL. I guess you have to know a TBI patient to get why that is humorous. She is quite the cute lil' lady when she doesn't get her way ;) We are asking for help to replace the $3000 bump cap and help with purchasing a new vehicle. I do not have the money to buy one out right, nor do i have the credit to finance one. If i did, she would be out on the town right now enjoying a nice drive! :-)
I also want to thank the news companies for broadcasting our story and for everyone on facebook who has been sharing it and downloading the "TILE" app that will be activated and notice us if the van is in within 100ft of the phone with this app on it. It runs silent, so please DL it if you can! That would also really help us out! Thank you SOOOO much!
