Infusions for Immune Disease
Donation protected
My name is Shelli Nelson and I have a disease called Common Variable Immune Deficiency (CVID) – a serious immune deficiency with which I was diagnosed in 2014. The only treatment is expensive infusions of human immunoglobulin (IVIG) every three weeks. My copay for the infusions is between $5,200 and $5,500 annually. I also have a chronic body wide pain condition and severe gastrointestinal problems. It costs close to $8,000 a year to pay for all of the medications and other forms of treatment I need.
I am single and have a modest disability income. It is not enough to pay for all of this. I need help.
I am trying to raise $35,000 to cover the costs of these infusions.
With infusions, my prognosis for a limited but rewarding life is very good. I will be able to continue living on my own, do light volunteer work and maintain my home. I recently was able to attend a recent high school reunion. Without infusions I will inevitably decline.
Years as a practitioner of meditation have taught me that none of us truly stands alone - we are all inherently linked. Still, asking for financial help is a very hard thing to do. Your donation will give me the gift of a quality life. I bow in deep gratitude for your generosity.
More About CVID:
The type of CVID I have is called hypogammaglobulinemia – a progressive immune disorder characterized by a reduction in all types of gamma globulins, including antibodies that help fight infection. I suffer from frequent upper respiratory infections and am at risk of developing chronic pulmonary obstruction. Without infusions I am at high risk for a certain type of anemia, as well as cancers of the lymphatic system. I also have a good chance of developing autoimmune diseases. Because people with CVID have so many infections, antibiotic resistance develops. I am already resistant to several types of antibiotics. Without treatment I am at risk for "superbug" infections like MRSA. Untreated CVID can cause debilitating fatigue and joint and muscle pain-- this is true for me. In late 2014 I stopped infusions due to the cost and became seriously ill.
