Hi, I’m Shelley Carney.
Like many of us, I’ve never thought of myself as more than “average,” but I’ve always strived to achieve more. For example, a couple of years ago, I started taking acting classes and, eventually, found the courage to get up on stage to perform improvised scenes in front of a live audience.
Then, one day, one of my acting coaches told me I had poor posture and looked tired, middle-aged and frumpy. Being described as “frumpy” had an immediate impact on me.
I started going to a gym thinking that would solve the problem of middle-aged frumpiness. After a year or so of working out, but not changing my diet or lifestyle. I wasn’t seeing the dramatic changes I had envisioned. I got discouraged.
Then my trainer challenged me to set a goal that was big and scary. How big and scary? I’m going to compete in the OCB Natural Bodybuilding Figure Competition on March 19, 2017. The other women in the competition are much younger than me. Some of them have been competing for years.
Yes, I’m nervous, and it will be expensive to compete in the OCB Natural Bodybuilding competition. (Scroll down for some cost estimates). But with your help and encouragement, I know I can do this.
I’m going to document my journey daily over the next three months on Facebook Live. You’ll be there with me at my gym, Finally Fit, with my trainer, Rebecca. I’ll show you my weigh-ins and measurements, posing practice, shopping, tanning, eating with discipline, and tell you how I’m feeling about my progress, or lack of progress. Those of you who contribute to my Go Fund Me campaign will get a big thank you "shout out" on my daily live videos and if you have a business that will sponsor me, I’ll visit your business for promotion with a Facebook Live video post.
As you follow along with me every day from now through the competition, I hope you’ll be inspired to get moving and eating nutritious meals, too. Then we can all be healthy in body, mind and spirit, no matter what our age. In other words, #dontbefrumpy.
