The Harvest for Humanity team has identified deserving women in Haiti to receive the first ever Women In Technology Educational Scholarships. These donations will provide them with the opportunity to reach their dreams.
As I learned about the poverty and challenges facing so many young women in Haiti, I really wanted to get involved in making a difference. I love The WIT Network Harvest for Humanity initiative because 100% of the money we raise will go directly to helping these young women reach their tuition goals for their education.
Shella J stood out to me primarily because of her motivation – everything she has been able to accomplish so far has been a result of her extraordinary drive and attitude. When it looked as though she wouldn't be able to stay in high school due to the cost, Shella approached the school director and worked out a plan to pay her tuition by cleaning classrooms.
Shella's success is entirely her own – she didn't have any family encouraging her in her goals. Her determination and creativity are remarkable!
Her desire to start an NGO and help those with diabetes through nutrition reminded me of my own daughters — one works for an NGO, and the other is a nurse. My daughters were able to get a good education partially because we live in Toronto, where education is accessible, but it's easy to lose sight of this privilege until we hear about someone less fortunate like Shella.
Please help me give Shella an opportunity she would not get otherwise – an opportunity to continue her healthcare education and improve the world with her knowledge and caring. Your donation of any amount will be gratefully accepted.
