The Harvest for Humanity team has identified deserving women in Haiti to receive the first ever Women In Technology Educational Scholarships. These donations will provide them with the opportunity to reach their dreams.
As a woman who is in leadership in a technology company, I can't emphasize enough the importance of access to technology in education. As I was browsing through young women's profiles, my eye was drawn to Sheïla's profile when she mentioned that education is the key to eliminating poverty. This is the way I see it, too, and the fact that Sheïla is able to recognize this despite being in the middle of a country where education is difficult to attain and poverty is rampant shows how strong her vision is.
For a young woman like Sheïla trying to get an education, access to technology is a basic need: a computer and internet access are required for her to complete her studies and do assigned homework. Her eventual goal, to complete a management program and Master's degree with an emphasis on technology, will help her work toward better access to technology for Haitian children.
Sheïla knows that technology will be a key element in getting future generations the opportunities they deserve, and she has a real shot at being able to make a difference.
