Sheffield Carnival 2018
The story so far...
We’re a group of volunteers who are bringing back Sheffield Carnival. Some of us were part of the Sheffield Carnivals that happened in the 1980's but sadly they came to an end in the early 1990's.
Happily, we successfully launched Sheffield Carnival as part of the Sheffield Fayre in August 2017 and this year we plan to make this an event in its own right.
In 2018 we’ll be putting on a carnival extravaganza with even bigger and better costumes! We’ll be working with one of UK's leading carnival artists Clary Salandy to create some fantastic costumes for the parade. She made costumes for the London Olympics 2012, now she’s making costumes for Sheffield! #exciting
Plans for 2018
The plan is to deliver a FREE multi-cultural family, outdoor carnival event with a costume parade on Saturday 23rd June 2018 in Norfolk Heritage Park, Sheffield. The event will also include cultural interactive arts and crafts activities, a main stage showcasing local community music and dance performances, a funfair and stalls for all to enjoy!
We will be running a series of costume making workshops for local community groups, children, young people and students across Sheffield, so everyone can be involved in the creative process and getting this show on the road. If you have a flair for the arts, crafty skills, a passion for carnival fashion, or just want to have a go – come and get involved! Drop us a line and keep watching our Twitter, Facebook and our website.
We also welcome anyone who is interested in joining our parade. Yes, you can wear a costume! We need children, young people, adults, to come and show off the amazing costumes. Interested? Drop us a line and we’ll be in touch.
Our theme for this year is The Rise of the Phoenix. Like that beautiful mythical creature, Sheffield Carnival is reborn and has risen from the ashes bringing costume, creativity and joy to Sheffield.
How you can help
We need your help! We need to raise money to contribute towards the costs of the park infrastructure. Please donate anything you can afford – no matter how big or small. It will all help us to do you and the Steel City proud!
Please help us reach our target of £1000. We’re working hard to raise money from other places and this £1000 is vital to making Sheffield Carnival happen. We really want to make this a special event: the workshops, the costumes, the music, the performers, the activities. Let’s make 23 June Sheffield Carnival Day - something all the community can enjoy. We can’t do this without your help. Please help us to make this happen.
Let's make Sheffield Carnival 2018 a day to remember...a day to make our city proud! Thank you x
