My sister-in-law and her family -- Michelle and Jon Sharp and their son Jonathan -- escaped their flooding Houston home on Monday just as the water was coming in the garage.  It was Michelle's 50th birthday. They are involved in animal rescue in Texas and evacuated with 7 cats and 4 dogs in their care -- some their own and some fosters.  They left in the back of a box truck through the flooded streets to get out.   Their home and cars are now underwater.  They got reports that the water level has risen more than a foot since these photos were taken.   They are losing their cars and their home, and sadly they have no flood insurance.  It is going to be a long, hard process to rebuild.

They made it to a friend's home that is currently dry, but is in danger of flooding if the resovoir doesn't hold. Their water supply keeps getting shut off, and the water available is contaminated and needs to be boiled before drinking.   It's been difficult with so many people and animals needing it.  They are trying to connect today with the Red Cross, but given the flooding it's hard to reach them.

We live in Washington State, and it's been hard to see all this happening from afar.  We figured the best way to help from here was by praying and helping rally some funds to help them get back on their feet.

We would so appreciate support for my sister-in-law and her family.  Any funds donated will be used directly for housing needs, clothing, and basic needs like food and medical care for them and their animals as they recover from this tragic disaster.

Thank you for anything you are able to give. We are grateful for your generosity!

Yesterday (Monday), Jon and Michelle took their first walk through of their ruined home. The flood waters have now receded in their neighborhood enough to walk around. Jon had made rescue missions with a boat and raft to pick up as many of their carryable valuables as he could last week, but yesterday was the first time Michelle had seen the damage and it was heartbreaking. Unfortunately, it looks like they are going to lose all of what's there. Even the items that were up high and didn't get wet are being destroyed by the mold which has already set in with all the humidity. So many family heirlooms lost. The cars are also destroyed, of course.

Michelle has been called to start work later this week and is scrambling to find a way to do that logistically. Thankfully a friend has offered to loan her a car.

They are still staying with friends -- three families, now close to 20 animals, and as many rescued items as they can all fit into one household. It is tight and chaotic, but they are so grateful for the dry home, camaraderie and friendship. They have been so blessed by friends through this.

And they are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and love from all of YOU....from friends, family, friends of friends, and even some they've never met . Your support has been a tremendous force of hope and light through this dark time for them. THANK YOU! Will keep you posted as they send more updates.

Hard to see the family heirlooms...

Jon sent these pictures over the weekend...they've been using a friend's fishing boat to rescue what items they could from their home.

HUGE thanks to all those who have contributed toward this relief fund! What a beautiful groundswell of support coming from all across the country. Gifts ranging from $10 to $1000 -- all heartfelt and so generous! We hope eventually to get a thank you to each of you, but in the meantime, please accept our deepest thanks. We have been SO, SO touched by each of you.

We did not get much word from Michelle and Jon today except to learn that they are still dry where they are staying. Michelle described it as an island surrounded by water (but thankfully not flooded!). They were using a friend's raft to make a rescue mission back to their home today to try to save a few more of the smaller belongings which hadn't yet been submerged. We hope it was a success....
