Milo Sudden Paralysis Surgery Bills

Donation protected
If you’ve ever had a pet, you know what a blessing it is to feel their unconditional love. To have a friend to share fun times with and a warm soul to snooze/cuddle when times are hard. To know that no matter what challenges life throws at you, there is unconditional love waiting for you at home, ready to wag its tail and run towards the door at any moment. He is always ready to love. It’s hard to put into words the heartbreak I felt when I realized that it was completely possible that I would not be able to return the love for my dog.

Milo is an independent and energetic 2-year-old. My mom says that he has a SPICY ️ attitude, and by spicy, she means feisty. I rescued him from Contra Costa County Animal Services in 2017. He likes pats, treats, and Lil’ Yachty- and he hates the Easter bunny. He likes to run and LOVES to chase anything that moves. Balls, plushies, and any other dog running around the park.  He doesn't care if it's big or small. If it runs then he will chase! He has so much spirit. The way he wags his tail makes it look like he is waving a flag.

Milo has never shown signs of being in pain before.
But when I found him hiding, shivering, panting and crying when touched, I knew something was horribly wrong. He wouldn’t even eat or drink and was pacing everywhere. After a trip to the general vet's office, he was sent back home with some pain medication.

A few hours into that same night, I learned that Milo’s back legs became paralyzed. He was only able to drag his back half of his body in order to move around and he was making a mess when he pooped. After frantic visits to nearby vets open on a Sunday, I was referred to  SAGE Center for Veterinary Specialties and Emergency Center in Campbell, CA. Their on-site neurologist, Dr. Vitale,  explained that with immediate spinal surgery, Milo has a very good 90% chance of healing and regaining his mobility. This needed to be done before he lost complete feeling in his back legs. I wanted to help Milo the best way I could but the vet bill was insane. We got an $11,000 estimate which did not include the MRI that they needed, which is another $2000. I recently lost my income stability so that made it worst. I’ve applied for Care Credit and extended all my accounts and credit lines but was still nowhere close to affording the surgery for Milo.

My sweet fur baby dog was in a lot of pain and completely stressed out. Always shivering and panting and would not let me pick him up. His back legs are in complete paralysis and he lost control of his bladder and could not defecate correctly.

He needed the surgery immediately as his chances of permanent paralysis was climbing quickly. He was able to have his operation on Tuesday and is currently on very strict bedrest. Although the worst part is over, I am still scrambling to find the money to pay for the steep vet bills as this happened so suddenly.

What Milo has is called Intervertebral disc disease. A disc in his spine ruptured and struck his spinal cord which is what caused the paralysis. It is a degenerated disease and there is no way to know that it is coming until it happens. Milo was born with short legs and a long back and that made his risk a lot higher.

I promised to do everything I can to protect Milo when I adopted him. He trusts me to make him feel safe and loved, the way he makes me feel every day. I wouldn't be trying hard enough if I didn’t come onto this platform to ask for help. Milo is one of the sweetest, charming, cuddly dogs I've ever known. He has a special personality and deserves to live a happy life of chasing dogs and fetching balls. If permanent, the paralysis will impact his quality of life. I cannot imagine my own life without the love that my pup has shown me this past year. Milo wants to chase all of the balls in the world. I hope that with this surgery and physical therapy, he will be able to do that again.

I’m here today reaching out to you kind people for donations, no matter the size, to help with the medical costs that have accrued due to this unfortunate circumstance. If you can’t afford to donate right now, I understand and kindly ask that you share this page with friends on social media and send him prayers for a successful journey to recovery. Every dollar big or small is appreciated. Every share to social media makes a huge difference for the campaign.

Milo and I humbly ask you to #HelpMiloFetchAgain . We are so thankful for your time and generosity. With Great Gratitude,
Milo & Renee N. (Milo's Human)
