I am fund raising for my brave little sister Shannon Christie.
Shannon is a 22 year old girl who suffered an ischemic stroke on 19th April 2018. In the early hours of the morning whilst getting ready for work the right side of her face dropped, her right arm and leg became paralysed and as she tried to call out for help she lost the ability to talk with all that was able to come out being long slurring sounds which made no sense.

She was taken to hospital and after a long time in a&e, many tests and many tears later she found out that the cause of her stroke was due to a hole in her heart, in which a blood clot had gone through and travelled to her brain causing the oxygen flow to her brain to stop, resulting in her having a stroke.

6 months later she finally had an appointment with a heart consultant to talk about surgery to close the hole in her heart. However she then got the devestating news that the surgery she needs to massively reduce the risk of having another stroke (Patent Foramen Ovale closure surgery) is NO LONGER funded by the NHS. This news absolutely broke her!

It has been shown in current years with more testing and trials that there is a massive reduction in recurring strokes when the patient has received Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) closure surgery. If she has another stroke it may lead to further brain damage, disability or even death!

At the moment Shannon is campaigning for the government to start funding PFO closure surgery on the NHS, but whilst she is doing this we are trying to raise the £10,000 Shannon needs to have her surgery now!

Thank you x
