Shane and Amy are going to Harvard!

Will you help us get there?

We have been invited to Harvard University to talk about our book and movie "The Suffering and Celebration of Life in America" ( http://www.usaodd.com), and how we survived on the road for a year with $180. Everyone says we must take advantage of this opportunity, that it is vital for our future, but it isn't going to be easy.

We have decided to do the Harvard talk for two reasons, mainly for the same reason we finished our book and movie, to give a voice to those who are ignored and overlooked. We are not of the ruling class, no one in our families even graduated college. We're a couple of metal head former factory workers who took a different turn, and that gave us the opportunity to talk to and document the people of America in a way no professor or newscaster would or could.

The second reason is desperate times call for desperate measures and we'd define desperate times as book sales slowing, art sales in a slump, unemployment running out and no employment opportunities as of yet.

The reviews for our BOOVIE are really good, and this opportunity is important to us, but it's not just for us, the stories we want to present are from the forgotten zip codes across America, these are people and places that never make the news, unless it's a tragedy.

We are driving from Oregon to Harvard with our dog and turtle (who also spent a year on the road with us). We are using our rent money and the last of my unemployment to do this. This is not something uncommon with struggling artists, but the older we get, it's not something we are as comfortable with as when we were in our 20's... eviction, cold showers, the more you get hit, the more you clinch... we are pretty clinched about this roll of the dice.

We are driving to Harvard because our dog Cheyenne is nearly 17 years of age and we just cannot leave her behind, she has been a great friend and if anything happens, we want to be there with her. Also, we do not fly due to a perilous flight we took back in 2001 (it's a long story). The cost of driving is not that much more than a plane or train ticket, the time it will take though is another story.

Everyone is welcome to come along with us on our trip to Harvard, as we will post photos, videos, blogs and even a podcast or two, so it should be a fun time for all of us.

This is where you come in:

If you're into helping out a creative couple with what could be a once in a lifetime opportunity that would be really cool.

We are also looking for places to stay between here and Harvard - Boise, Salt Lake City, Cheyenne, WY, Denver, Lincoln or Omaha NE, Des Moines IA, Chicago, New York, Philly, Baltimore, Minneapolis, Missoula, MT (We are willing to go further).

We are willing to do the same presentation we will do at Harvard for you in your living room, or at a local library. Please let us know if you live in one of these areas or know someone who does, or if you want to help support this opportunity.

Anyone who donates $10 or more, we will send you a postcard from Harvard, or you can buy our BOOOVIE if you haven't already.

Thank you for your support, we really appreciate it,
Shane & Amy & Cheyenne & Myrtle the Turtle

Take a look at the work we created during our road trip that led to our book and movie.

We offer our deepest gratitude to all who helped us make this crazy journey. Our dog Cheyenne who was a great part of our year long road trip (which spawned the book and movie we were invited to Harvard to speak about) could not be left at home, and so we took this trip on in this crazy manner.

She had a great time traveling, she looked out the window, she marched vigorously around each new place we stopped, she was like a young pup and loved every moment of her adventure!

Cheyenne passed away yesterday, exactly one month after our return home. While our hearts are broken, we know how much this last adventure meant to her and all of us.

Thank you so much for the support you gave to us. We understood how crazy it was to drive to speak at Harvard, and we will never forget your generosity.
Thank You!

Thank you all so very much for your help and support. We made it! And, we could not have done it without you, truly this never could have happened. Shane and I are packing up the perks and sending them out. Look for items in the next 7 - 10 days.
Hopefully, everyone got their postcards so far. Keep an eye on the mail next week.
Again, thank you all so much for your support and encouragement, it meant the world to Shane and I, and Cheyenne and Myrtle too!

Hello All!
We have made it to Cambridge! That was a really long drive -- 3500 miles or thereabouts. We are exhausted, but excited to prepare for our presentation on Tuesday night: https://www.facebook.com/events/362229923887267/ Hope you can join us for it, it will also be filmed and posted on Youtube.
Thank you so much for your support, and if you can help us cover the costs of this once in a lifetime opportunity we still need your help.
You can keep up with our progress here: https://www.facebook.com/shaneandamy
and our website is here: http://www.usaodd.com/ (You may not know you can read the entire book on our blog, we have it posted in 50 page increments)
Thank you again. We really appreciate your support and hope to make you proud!

Thank you to everyone who has supported our trip so far. This was a last minute opportunity that we just could not turn down, your help really lets us focus on making our our presentation the best it can be rather than scrambling to try to cover these sudden added expenses. That piece of mind and generosity is more valuable than gold to us.
Thank you very much.
