David LaBarre's Medical Expenses

Donation protected

Welcome to the GoFundMe site for Sgt. David LaBarre. On the morning of Monday, November 21, 2016, David was helping a friend with tree work. He was standing on a ladder cutting a large branch when the branch snapped back and struck him in the face. He was knocked off of the ladder and knocked unconscious. David was taken by EMS to Duke University Hospital. He suffered multiple skull and facial fractures, a subdural hematoma, cerebrospinal fluid leak, vision loss and pulmonary blood clots. He spent the next four weeks in the Neuro-ICU and several step down units before he was released home.

David has served the community, working with the Durham County Sheriff's Office for the last 13 years. At the time of his injury he was on paternity leave due to the arrival of his second child, Beau. David is married to Anna, and they have two children, Daisy (3) and Beau (9 weeks).

David is a true miracle and very lucky to be alive. We thank God for sparing his life that day! He has a long journey of healing and recovery ahead of him before he can return to work. Currently he has physical and occupational therapies twice a week. He has continued to have his care followed by multiple specialties at Duke (ENT, neurosurgery, ophthalmology and Head and Neck Surgery). He also has weekly appointments to monitor his blood thinners. David's vision loss (loss of peripheral vision and seeing double and blurry) continues to be a major concern. We are told that after traumatic brain injury, brain healing can take months and up to a year. We continue to hope and pray that David’s vision will be restored. He will meet with a neuro-opthamologist in late January to explore options.

Our family cannot adequately express our gratitude for your love, support, and prayers.  We believe that in time David will be completely healed. Please continue to lift David and his family up in your thoughts and prayers...they are working! God bless.

"And my God will meet all of your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus."
